| 883R S/E 2 exhaust pipes to loud ???
hi all,i know this will tend to go agaist the flow, but the S/E 2 pipes i have on my 883R i find a bit loud.the system was dealer fitted with correct jetting & set up about 12 months ago.my question is,can the pipes be made a bit quieter & if so how, also if i can make them quieter will there be a loss of PERFORMANCE[can the standard pipes be put back on with the performance jets left in????].thanks for any help, lollypop. |

Don't rev it up so mutch...It can't be that loud can it ..what you got fitted? If you do anything to the exhaust you will have to do something to the carb as well..

Going back to standard pipes will not need a change to carb jets, but if he was to change the air intake then the carb jetting should be considered.

I agree with grumpy, I change back from SE2's to original pipes once a year for the MOT and the engine still runs smooth.

| Re: 883R S/E 2 exhaust pipes to loud ???
The pipes on my 1200sportster sport were very loud when i got it a few months ago, they are slash cut with Harley davidson pressed into the rear one. I took them off for a look, and found that the inlet to the silencer turned into an annular ring which then flowed into a large ( echo chamber ) via perforations.I conncluded that this was far from a straight through ,probably gave the right amount of back pressure, but lots of noise. I turned up on the lath 4 flanges to fit neatly in the internal bore of the silencer, joined 2 pairs with 45mmo/d perf tube, wrapped e glass around the perf, wired it on ,slipped the mutes in drilled through the silencer to coinicide with the inner flange tapped it m6 ( yes I know bad practice on an imperial machine )and bolted it in. The hole through the mute is equal to the holes the gas passes through upon entry to the silencers,so no extra restriction ,but a whole lot easier on the ear.I know its very involved,I used to work in the development dept of Tenneco Walker ( exhaust manufacturers )and I like to make stuff any way. But I think I have seen mutes for sale like the ones i Made, maybe Zodiac useing a wrap of e glass would cut out the harshness ( high frequency ) but still leave a nice deep growl Just a few thoughts on the subject Gas Axe |
