Swap Dual seat for a single seat

Has anyone got a standard single seat off an 04-06 XL883 'rubbermount' (not custom or low model) that they would like to swap for a virtually unused dual seat off my 2006 XL1200R? My seat is in excellent almost as new condition, I would expect the single seat to be similar. North west area preferred.

Hi,

Have you tried one out yet? I changed my 883R to single seat and changed it right back 20 miles and one sore backside later! They look great but that's about all.

I bought one off ebay (from a club member in fact who warned me they were bad) and then resold it at a loss of £12. Please don't give the dual away before you've tried one out. Also, don't buy a HD leather solo one, they are even more uncomfortable if that's possible!

Cheers,

Colin......

Re: Swap Dual seat for a single seat

Thanks for the info, I currently have a dual Sundowner seat which is great for two up and touring, but I like the idea of being able to swap over to a single seat for knockin' about locally, and I love the look of the single seat with the small chrome rack fixed behind it. I assume the single seat is reasonably comfy for sub 100 mile trips? Nature has provided me with ample cushioning on the botty!!

Re: Swap Dual seat for a single seat

I'm now begiining to have doubts about the the wisdom of fitting the single HD seat, are they really that bad?
Can anyone reccommend from personal experience a comfy single seat?

Re: Swap Dual seat for a single seat

I have a 1200 custom 06 and I have 3 seats, the original, the sundowner for when the mrs is on and I bought a Lepera barebones solo which I can do about 50 miles on before the lower back starts to hurt but it looks great!

Re: Swap Dual seat for a single seat

Strange..ive got standard Solo seat on my bike and have no probs really apart from having a tendency to slide back on it when i'm gunning it. Maybe i ought to stop polishing it!!
I have done quite a few 200mile plus journeys on the standard seat and don't find it that uncomfortable..saying that though..ive never tried anything else. HarleyJase...i also like the look of the barebones..but if it's more show than go then i think i'll give it a miss.
Solo seats are the way to go on a Sporty though..show all that rear fender off and they look good with a motherwell curved fender rack too. I just don't think Sportsters are made for 2up riding..too cramped (i am 6ft though)!

Re: Swap Dual seat for a single seat

i have an 883L so even less sponge in the saddle, and by god is it uncomfortable, had poor car drivers wondering what was going on with me standing on the pegs with my wife massaging my arse as we went along! so i took off the seat covering and put in a layer of foam and re covered it, simple job with a staple gun, got the foam from a dunhelme mill shop. have yet to try on a long run but in day to day use its better so far. steve.
