1200 piston

Can anyone tell me the diameter of a 1200 piston, I have an 883 to 1200 kit coming and wanted to get the ring compresor and ring pliers sorted out, also whats the best way of getting the wrist pin (gudgeon pin in English) clip out without using the Harley tool,

Re: 1200 piston

Carfully remove pin retaining clip one side only (dont drop clip) and pin will slide out with light assistance from light drift.
You can use your thumbs to fit the rings.

Re: 1200 piston

Hi mate the bore diameter on a std 1200 cylinder is 3.498" giving a circumference of 10.989291102257096" (rounded result value 10.989")
If this helps

Re: 1200 piston

Hi Fatboy
I would personally buy, or you can easily make your own gudgeon pin puller using a long enough bolt with matching nut 2 washers and 2 pieces of tubing) 1 just slightly smaller in diameter than the gudgeon pin and one larger in central diameter than the outer hole on the piston for the gudgeon pin to pass through. Put a spanner on the end of the bolt and 'wind' out the gudgeon pin.

I personally would remove both circlips that retain the gudgeon pin and not use a drift to 'driveout' the gudgeon pin as you could technically 'distort' the con rod and then 'kiss goodbye' to your conversion!

As you have spent out the cash to convert the motor don't scrimp on 'extras' to do the job properly!

All new gasket set. gudgeon pin remover (or good home made version), piston ring compressors, 'circlip remover, clean 'lint-free' rags to stop any dropped items from entering the crank cases and a trustworthy mate to make tea, roll fags, and hold the barrells steady as you re-assemble your motor!

Just my thoughts.

Good luck.
