It says: "When we do a stage one we advise the customer to leave the standard air filter in as there is no better filter than the standard one to protect your engine." ![]() And then it goes on: "The K&N filter or Hypercharger etc doesn't give any significant performance over stock." ![]() But they will sell you a Dynojet kit you don't need. ![]() So what are you getting for £230? A pair of Cycle Shack slip ons. Normal price from Zanotti? £77.33! Even with shipping and taxes that's not going to work out anywhere near £230.

| Re: Stage 1 on e-bay
Folkie i have only just see this, the advert on ebay belongs to custom works, which we own.we are also members of this club.I assume you are not a qualified Harley mechanic or you would not be giving Tone your good advice on the fact that just because you are not fitting a K&N filter but fitting after market pipes that you dont need to fit a dyno jet kit.If you read the dyno jet kit info it clearly states that you do not have to fit a K&N filter and the bike is jetted accordingly.I am sure you can quote the horse power difference between after market pipes with stock filter and after market pipes with K&N or Hyper charger, will make interesting reading. We are a legit business so we buy our parts through the the official channels, which means we have to pay import duty, vat etc.I do realise people are buying parts from the states because they often ring us for a quote then buy the parts from the states because they can get them cheaper and then ask us to fit them. The problem then arises two or three months down the road when there is a problem ie chrome peeling off etc they then come back to me.My answer is if you had bought the parts from me they would be under warranty, but you did not so I can not send them back or replace them for you sorry.I am afraid you take your chances. Folkie us in the trade are always grateful for people like your self giving out your type of advice as sooner or later the bike ends up with us any way for the job to be put right which has then cost the customer a lot more than if he had bought it to us in the first place. | Re: Stage 1 on e-bay Quote:
And your statement that: "The K&N filter or Hypercharger etc doesn't give any significant performance over stock", you stand by that do you? You might be right about the HYPErcharger, but there are freer flowing air cleaners. Actually, I wasn't saying that: "just because you are not fitting a K&N filter but fitting after market pipes that you dont need to fit a dyno jet kit"I was saying that there is no need for a Dynojet kit. Period. A pilot jet (even if you need one, which is far from certain, even with a freer flowing a/c) is, what, about £7? But since you mention it, if you have freer flowing pipes but the stock a/c, you can probably deal with this just with an adjustment of the idle mixture needle; what the heck do you need any jet for, never mind a Dynojet kit? My advice would be not to take my word for this, or that of someone trying to sell you the kit, but to read all you can, and talk to as many people as you can about it; you'll soon find out what the concensus is. You could do worse than read this: XL Forum: Jetting 101.

six years racing drag bikes, building my own engines hell what do I know! Folkie where have you been all my life it sounds like you could have saved me a lot of money, and I would have not been fitting parts to our customers bikes they did not need.

| Re: Stage 1 on e-bay What year bike have you got? This was on the '04+s. They're supposed to have fixed it now. Mind you, we've still got warping plastic back plates on the SE a/c! As for whether paper or oiled fabric filters protect the engine better, I've heard it argued both ways. However, for riders in normal conditions (not in sand storms in the Sahara, for example) either will do a perfectly good job. There must be millions of oiled fabric filters in use on bikes and cars all over the world, without any problems. At least with the oiled fabric filter you can wash it, re oil it, and use it again and again. You may never have to buy another filter. And the suggestion that a freer flowing air cleaner doesn't give a performance improvement over the stock air cleaner? There's plenty of people who know this isn't true. Most of them couldn't produce dyno charts to prove it; after all, who the heck pays out good money to dyno a stock bike? However, here's a dyno chart from NRHS: ![]() Performance issues aside, I don't like the stock (or SE) air cleaner's plastic back plate, or the routing of the crankcase breathers into the carb. Give me a bit of solid engineering any day, like this: ![]() I don't know how much difference the velocity stack makes, but it's certainly a lovely bit of machining.
