Re: Nightster

Hi was in a dealers the other day and was told that the top shock mount has been placed higher on the nightster than on any other sporty. So the shock length is longer.

No, the frame's the same, the shock mount is the same, the longer (than some) shocks give a higher ride height and greater ground clearance.

A lot of people who work in dealers are morons who state the most outrageous things as if they were fact.

Re: Nightster

Why do we get the '07+ 883L then?

Our roads are crap? Quite a lot of roads in the States aren't even metalled.

Re: Nightster

I'm 23st ( as my wife says a fat little git ) and had trouble with the original shocks bottoming out. I bought Progressive shocks for the rear and now they dont bottom out. In our local area theres a long sweeping fast bend with a few good bumps in it and I have been round these at 75mph and its OK

Re: Nightster

As I understand it the US Nightster is an inch lower than the UK version. I have put a few miles on the US one, & it is NOT for the faint of spine.
Once my legs went numb, it didn`t bother me a bit.

Re: Nightster

Saw one in Brighton yesterday, think it looks georgeous.
was seriously thinking about one, would need to change the seat as it is really hard and a few other little tweaks i had in mind
But after reading this not so sure now.
I will book a test ride and rethink my plans

Which bit makes you doubtful, what Phil said about "NOT for the faint of spine"? He's talking about the US version which has 11" shocks (same as the '07+ 883L). The UK Nightster has 13¼" shocks same as the R, and I would assume the fork is the same as on the R and Custom, so the seat is at least 2¼" higher (with a similar increase in travel).

Mind you, I've got 11" shocks on my Custom, and the ride's firm, without a doubt, but not spine jarring. They're not H-D stock shocks though, they're Progressive 440s.
