Enjoy the Nightster. Anyone know what the rubber bits are for on the shocks. ?
Old fashioned thinking. Brit bikes used to have rubber gaiters on the forks many moons ago. I was told that the practice ceased as they caused moisture to be trapped and hastened corrosion.

...if that's the case then you could try taping them silica bags into the top of each fork gaiter, you know those bags you get in packing that absorb moisture- they look like the little bags of salt when you could salt your own crisps. Just a thought...

I have an MZ with fork gaiters that I still use in the winter mainly, it is 22 years old and the forks are great under the gaiters, good gaiters have a small hole at the bottom to let air circulate and I have fitted a set of nightster gaiters to my trike to protect the forks from the elements, stones etc that can chip the chrome and then you get leaks. I suspect that the reason fork gaiters went out of fashion, is that they didn't look "cool" enough for the pocket rocket boys! All the old brit bikes I had had either gaiters or painted metal fork shrouds to protect the tubes. Below are pics of my old BSA Super Rocket taken around about 1965, when I got her as a cafe racer and then when I set her up for more long distance touring. (I wish I still had her!)

Love the pics of your old Super Rocket Dave...........

I had one in 1968 that started out with the chrome tank etc then I fitted the clip-on bars, swept-back pipes and fibre-glass tank and seat.

Eeeeeehh - them were the days

Kev, it looks like, you did the opposite of what I did, I went from cafe racer to tourer. I sold the BSA, about 1969 and got a minivan so I could take the kids and missus about, I should have bought a sidecar for the bike, that was me bikeless for a couple of years, got a B31 with a sidecar then, trouble is, the missus had been spoilt by 4 wheels and she wouldn't go back on a bike!
