Unhappy Mid life Crisis and Sporty

inspiration needed!
I am about to commit a heresy but ........I am considering buying a Triumph Tiger 1050 and getting rid of my 1200 low?
Why ? well........its just ..... have you ridden a Tiger 1050....it goes like a fast jet, handles and brakes, lots and lots of passenger and rider comfort......
ok doesnt look as good as my 1200 low, but to be fair outperforms it in any measure of rideability....

Could be a mid life crisis, I am 50. Any of you guys had your doubts about your trusty steeds ...? or is it just me

Re: Mid life Crisis and Sporty

Must be honest, been there and done the same thing.

Got it out of my system with all the quick stuff. The only regret was selling the Harley I had at the time and then losing a load of dosh at every change. After 5 years without a Harley had to buy another because I missed the bloody things.

Other problem was all my social life suddenly dissapeared overnight.
Keep the sporty if you can and frighten yourself on the Triumph/Yamaha.Suzuki etc till you get fed up with it.

appearance is a matter of personal opinion, my son rides a Suzuki and thinks Harleys look stupid

come to that he doesn't seem to be short of a social life...

I find it a bit sad if your social life revolves around the type of bike you ride. Bloody hell are we not ALL bikers regardless. Bit shallow if harley riders will only talk to harley riders and so on.
Incidentally, just for the record I ride a Yam!!(650 dragstar)

Re: Mid life Crisis and Sporty

Thanks Mikkim,
That helps, I must have woken up in a bad mood.
on reflection you are right. Avoid losing a ton of dosh, and buy something else to play around with (a bike I mean, it sounded a bit naughty didnt it !).
Its just that sometimes, usually after a trip to a Harley Dealer followed by a trip to a Triumph or other emporium, I get a bit pissed at how little we HD riders get for our money.

Cant comment on the social aspect, to my shame have never attended any club meeting. Probably cause of my 'no mans land' location between regions, here in Rotherham area .

Sorry if it all seems a bit shallow, I didnt think that was the question. But after making a number of very good friends over many years, because of being a member of a one make club, HOG, it did come as a bit of a shock to be excluded because of the rules of said club.
But the good friends still remain good friends. And then I found HDRCGB, another good bunch of people. If you ride a Yamaha thats your choice. I dont mind what people ride.

Had a feeling it was 'that' club you were talking about. I would love a Harley but can't afford one, so would rather ride somthing I can afford than not ride at all.
I too have found some good people on here who dont judge you because of what you ride. Incidentally i originally joined the forum because it was such a laugh, humour is what lifes about, as well as riding motorcycles of course

this was supposed to be about a Harley Sportster, the pros and cons of .... but if you think a social life depending on a biker club might be a bit shallow.... how about one depending on flying model electric helicopters ...!
No really... My son gave me his electric helicopter (cost about £100 quid) and sad bugger that I am, I learnt to fly it, but there is a club scene out there bristling with enthusiasts...
and whats really sad is I was thinking of joining it !!

Finally, gave sporty a short ride a little while ago and have decided to live with him for another year, might even try the club scene ... if I am not flying my model helicopter that is...
Thanks again for your comments Mikkim.

Re: Mid life Crisis and Sporty

Well-informed motorcyclists rarely buy a Harley on the grounds of performance, handling, value, etc etc etc. They don't cut it on most comparative levels.

But then again, very few well-informed motorcyclists have ''Kawasaki'' or ''Triumph'' tattooed on them, or images of their bike's engine.

Yer either mad-passionate about Harleys, or you will enjoy any bike equally. No crime either way.

I would rather have a 1971 Buick than ride any other brand of motorcycle. Really. And does that make me not a ''real biker''?

You know what......I really don't give a toss!

Keep it.
