Help Required Please

I've just changed my rear master cylinder for a new shiny one, bled the brakes ok. Went to the bike this morning & it's like it's stuck in gear, but it is'nt, i've checked. Drained the fluid & checked the rear caliper, the pads seem fine, not sticking on.
Now, whilst the cylinder was off i had a clean round & thought i would take the mounting plate off (that holds the cylinder) the only thing that seemed to be holding it on is a large 3/8 allen bolt,(just to the right) when i started turning it was just doing that, turning, so obviously not a bracket bolt. Any ideas??? the bike has not been fired up & i've had it on the lift & can't see anything untoward......................

Re: Help Required Please

I am a little confuse by your description.

1 - did you spin the wheel after you had fitted and bled the brakes
2 - was the caliper hard to get off, ie gripping the disc
3 - could the wheel be spun after it was removed

Re: Help Required Please

Put her on the lift & fired her up, no probs, then put her in gear & a squealing noise was heard, the wheel went round just. Took off the rear caliper & the pads were fine, tried to spin the wheel & no turn, it's like there is something seized or stuck, the last time i went out there was no probs, untill i started on the resovoir all was ok, any idea what the 3/8 allen bolt is for.
thanks

Re: Help Required Please

I cant place the bolt you are on about i'm afraid.

Have a good look around to make sure noth is jammed between moving parts and fixed parts.

If all ok loosen off the rear wheel nut and see if it turns then. Do it by hand not the engine. The engine will have the brute force to overcome a hell of a lot.

I am thinking the bearings may have become seized, timkin ones wont normally seaize but normal ball bearings can it the seal are buggered.

You could even take the wheel out and inspect them just to make sure. The last thing you want is for them to loak up and possibley have you off. At the least they would damage the wheel hub.

Re: Help Required Please

Remove the master cylinder mounting bolts and try moving the wheel by hand.

If it was OK before you changed it then look to what you last changed.

Re: Help Required Please

This is a puzzle, if the problem started after your ride it should no be anything you have done but rather something that has happened during or after your ride.

As Girlyglide says remove the master cylinder, see what it is like then.

The belt will make the wheel tightish to turn by hand and it can make squueking or creaking noises as it is in a fairly high state on tension but not when it is running in gear.

Slacken the belts off and try to turn the wheel, that will tell you if it's the wheel or the transmission. Remember to adjust the belt correctly after though .

Is anything touching the tyre at all ??

Re: Help Required Please

Disconnect the brake pedal & try. If it is not adjusted correctly it will try & push the brake on.

Re: Help Required Please

Gathered bretheren, sorted the problemo, in my haste to add shiny bits, i did'nt check the length of the new chrome bolts that i got from my indy & they are about 3/4" tooooo long, so they were stopping the belt from turning.
Thanks for all the advice
