| Re: Loud pipes I think mr UKKID76 has just upset 90% of the club that have broken at least one law on there bike. Its the do gooders that run the UK. I have several violations on both my bikes so I take offence. Including loud pipes and a small plate. It makes up for my Large penis ![]() |

| Re: Loud pipes One man's meat...... ..... I've just returned from France, where the constant buzzing of hyper-tuned 50cc mopeds drove me nuts, but where the echo of my V & H Straightshots even at legal speeds drew glares in many villages. Loud pipes, it seems, are fine over there so long as it's a two-stroke expansion chamber. As for the "keep it legal" bit, I personally subscribe to the view that rules are made for the obedience of fools, and the guidance of wise men. That is the words of the adage, not my personal opinion of those concerned. ![]() My number plate may be smaller than the law proscribes but it's never stopped any coppers from being able to read it. Together with the pipes it's my little kick against the system and I'd be a bloody liar if I denied getting a modicum of satisfaction from it.

| Re: Loud pipes I kicked this off with the question WHY? I like to hear my bike, I like it that other road users can hear my bike. I don't give a monkey's if Wayne and Wayneta and there clan of snotty kids can hear my bike or look at it as I ride past. I don't mind if a Danni Minogue lookalike, or even Danni herself for that matter , cop a peep as I go past, It gives a better perspective view of available rackage if they turn around. But I do ask why with regards to how your bike runs and how your mates might feel riding behind you if you're out for the day. Having ridded behind a 95" SE fatboy with V+H pipes for an hour and a bit, I can tell you its not always a pleasant experience on the eardrums. I fitted E marked German made pipes when I did my 95" build. It sounded like a knitting machine. Out came the drill and I'm at a point where I'm reasonably happy and the Plod round the corner hasn't complained for 2 years. Don't underestimate how pissed off your neighbours can get with pipes that are loud for louds sake. As an aside and a practical point on this, how the pipes sound to you riding has no resemblance to how others hear them. I've been out on the wifes Sportster a few times and was struck by how quiet it was, really felt that I couldn't hear it. Then I heard it as someone else rode it and it sounded like a Harley, proper Potato thingy, the volume wasn't loud but it was certainly audible. Don't judge the volume of your own pipes from standing next to it at tickover or whilst riding around in the saddle.

| Re: Loud pipes I like the sound of my D&D pipes. Loud but I think you can go to loud IMHO. Its a free world any you can chose to do what you like. You just have to be prepared to accept the consequences of your actions. Then take the punishment like a Man. |

My point exactly, except it's not “that” individual person who’ll have to accept the consequences, The authorities will clamp down on everyone with non standard pipes and/or number plates just because of a few who think really loud is "cool", Look at Germany and Switzerland and France!! I know they turn a blind eye at those of us who pass through, but living there is another story, My point isn’t that small plates and loud pipes are wrong, I have loud pipes and a smaller that legal number plate but not so small or so loud that it would piss off the authorities and therefore affect everyone!!

| Re: Loud pipes nat-z.... 'loud pipes save lives' is complete nonsense, as anyone who works in a noisy environment will know. Plus, if you think you can hear ANYTHING apart from the stereo and the turbo inside a Scania, that's just your way of saying that you've never been inside one. kevscrivener... unfortunately 'guidance to the wise' tends to take the form of automated, arbitrary fines, in this green and pleasant land. HogManiac.. it might just be me, but to me provoking a pointless and inevitable penalty is taking it like a wilfully stupid man. Please send me a cutting of your money tree so I can have one in my garden, too monkeybrain has got it in one about following bikes with loud pipes for any distance. this thread wants locking now, because it's just turned into a watered-down version of the 'I've ridden for 30 years with a suicide clutch and no brakes, and you're all wimps who should be riding Hondas because you don't' garbage that you get on the chopper boards |

I agree totally You can see what MAGICK was trying to say in her thread, "Entitled to ask questions without being victimised?"

| Re: Loud pipes I love having my words twisted. I have never had a fine of any kind on my motorcycle. I wish I had a money tree. So you angels stick with you surf board plates and stock pipes and let the rest of us enjoy our bikes how we like. The law will tell us off if we are considered to be bad boys. |
