| Popping Got the Sporty mot'd today at last ! & i noticed that its started popping quiet badly when off the throttle slowing down etc! what causes this ? After close inspection at home i noticed theres a small exhaust leak blowing out where the front cylinder down pipe goes into the exhaust silencer ( if you can call slash cuts silencers) could this be the problem & what is the best thing to use to seal it ? Gun Gum ! or just let the buildup of soot over time do it ? Otherwise all else is good & its nice to be back on the road again![]() |

| Re: Popping That will do it, a leaking exhaust can cause this 'popping' on the overrun. Your silencer may not be all the way on the pipe, i found my Sportster silencer was leaving a little of the slot clear of the down pipe. Undone it, push it a little further on and it was ok.

| There are 2 types of exhaust gasket, size wise. My 883 should have the thinner ones fitted, but with my drag pipes, I use the larger diameter ones, thicker to. My goes fine. TD ![]()

| Re: Popping Well the popping turned into banging & missfireing & poor accelerating, tightened the exhaust manifold nuts & sealed the leaks but still not much better ! Then i put my 'spare' set of spark plugs in & HEY PRESTO runs sweet as a nut again. Turns out one of the plugs had a crack in the ceramic insulation ![]() Isnt it great when its a simple fix in the end Road tested it on a 60 mile blast round my favourite roads today ooohhhhh yes |

| Re: Popping Hi, I noticed just today, I've had the occasional pop/squeek on decelleration. My bike is a Sportster XL1200C '07 with near 2500 on the clock. Is there anything I should check. I'm not a mechanic but can tighten up some bolts if need be. Or if the spark plugs need replacing maybe someone has a guide?

I think a little popping sounds nice but in my case it was all popping & slow go ![]() If your bothered about it try changing the plugs & leads for new & see if that makes any difference, im sure others here with more knowledge than me will say otherwise as they are very knowledgable. safe riding ![]() |

| Re: Popping Yeah popping is nice, unsure about he squeak, sounds like I've scooped up a mouse I was looking at new spark plugs on ebay, some NGK Iridium ones. Is there any special knowledge required to fit them, I've heard about proper spark plug gaps etc???
