Re: Stage one

I don't know what year your Sporty is Colin, but the 07 and 08 models with the O2 sensors certainly do run very lean, especially around town, which is where the heat issues can be irritating, though never as bad as on the big twins. The bikes don't accelerate as well, pull as strongly from low down or ride as smoothly without fuel adjustment, and will surge between 20 and 40 mph. I'm just stating the facts. If you don't ride in traffic and have nothing to compare the symptoms to you may well not notice anything terribly amiss. There's certainly nothing wrong with what you're saying about simply drilling the baffles out and leaving the fuelling alone, but from my own experience I am much happier with the full stage 1 with Power Commander - it's transformed the bike and made it even more fun.

Cheers

Mike

PS: No it isn't just at tickover. It's at all speeds, but particualry at the speeds at which the EPA drive-by test is carried out, and at any steady cruising speed where the ECU map specifies a mixture of 14.6:1 (if I remember correctly) and leaner, including at relatively low speeds around town.

Hi Mike,

My bike is the last of the carb models and from what you've said I'm glad it is! I'm sorry but I didn't realise there were so many new problems/issues with the FI and O2 sensors. Thanks for enlightening me.

Cheers,

Colin......

I asked him if he was getting a stage 1 done to it, and he said out local dealer wants a fortune to do it...so it'll have to wait.

What's involved in doing this...is it just silencers and air cleaner. Will it invalidate the warrenty if I do it for him.

Any advice appreciated...I did do a search on here, but didn't really find the answers.

Brian.

....how do you know what a Lambretta sounds like.........

Re: Stage one

Ah. Oops. Mis-directed meself; this is a Sporty thread. Sorry, Sorry, SORRY.
Should have said; 'You need an Ironhead, That's what you need.'
Jurassic, fine; Cretaceous? No, not a real Harley.
Cheers, Pete.

Re: Stage one

I have fitted drag style slip on mufflers (with bafffles) sounds great, changed the air filter to a high flow K & N type and changed the jets. Question is do I need to remove the back of the filter housing like the screaming eagle version?
