Unhappy I've did a stupid thing

I started my bike in gear.

Fortunately the drive belt snapped , rather than the bike jerking foreward and crashing to the ground.

Anyway, anyone with any idea how difficult it may be to replace a drive belt, or can give me any other tips on getting mobile again?

Cheers

Re: I've did a stupid thing

About two hours start to finish for a Sportster, a bit more difficult on a solid mount rather than a rubbermount due to the rear master cylinder mounting.

I suspect your belt was going to break anyway, starting in gear would not normally snap a belt.

Re: I've did a stupid thing

I've had a belt snap twice on my '98 sportie, drop the rear exhaust and rear brake master cylinder remove the belt guard, slacken off the rear axle nut and push the wheel as far forward as poss and remove the suspension unit as well there may be a couple more things to remove but I cant think of them at the mo, no need to remove wheel!

I think for your belt to go that easily there has already been weakness in the belt. Examine where the belt has snapped. Is it a clean break or are there any signs of damage / distortion?. Good luck with the replacement job.
