jingle jangle

Hi All

Just noticed strange noise from engine 07 883L (sounds like keys jangling/tinkling and no its not my keys) when I go over a bump or rough stretch of road. Bike runs ok just disconcerting, also I have S&S slip on's dealer fitted 18 months ago, no big air filter fitted. Dealer says no need to remap or fit power commander as sensors readjust. However one or two mechanics say I could knack the engine, who's truthing.

Cheers

Hi, have a look at the heatshields on your pipes and check that they are fastened nice and tight.
Good a place as any to start tracing noises.

Agree with above, if its a metalic tinkling noise, almost def your heatshield. You can tighten up with a small socket (dunno size off hand sorry) or a screwdriver, tho socket works best.
I had one of mine where the jubilee clip attached to shield broke off, not much you can do then, short of buying a new one.

Re: jingle jangle

Mrs D's baffles started to fall apart in her SE slip-ons and that made the same sort of noise.
I took them out and screwed em back together...that did the trick!!

Should have no need to remap just for slipons! if you go for a full free breathing set of pipes or add a free flow filter then a remap MAY be needed but even then a lot of people run with a free flow and pipes with no issue

Re: jingle jangle

If that noise you are talking about is only heard when you are accelerating (under load) it could be pinking, which is telling you the mixture is to lean.
You need to let someone who knows what pinking sounds like to make sure it aint that.
If it is you may need to get a remap or buy some XIED's you can get them from the Nightrider website, and to be honest it wouldnt hurt to get them anyway.
