service query

got all my bits to do a 10000 miles service....started to take off derby cover housing to do transmission lube change...2 of those torq bolts are stuck tight, so is it ok to drain the fluid, then refill thru the transmission chain inspection cover???...ive read on us site that most of them do it that way!!...anyone on here done same thing, due to those crappy torq bolts
list to do is:
oil & filter
transmission drain/refill
spark plugs( got new fancy leads as well)
brake clean/check
head bearing regrease(grease gun)
general lube/check etc etc...

Yes mate, its actually easier to do it through the chain inspection cover.

Re: service query

Hey Lee,
That seems to be a common problem, I've had to resort to extreme methods to get some of the screws off my transmission side cover. How is it that the thread lock that Harley use is actually stronger than the heads of the bolt? Really frustrating.
Cheers
Mick

Re: service query

yes (assuming we are talking about a combined primary/gearbox) ive did mine a couple of days ago that way cos the clymer suggests it as being the simplist way and i like that.
slightly worried about the torx issue on the derby though - have to try it.

Re: service query

Use an impact driver with a T27 1/2" drive socket.
