| 1200 conversion
just wondered what people who have a 883 - 1200 conversion done, do about insurance and vehicle registration. i'm not asking for advice on how to break the law, but it seems to me that if i had it done only i would know as far as tax and insurance is concerned, but upon selling it, am i on a sticky wicket.? cheers steve.

i think you will find the onus is on you the seller to inform the buyer cos when they insure an 883 and have an accident and its discovered its a 1200 (low chance but possible) the insurance is void (as is yours). ![]() when i looked for insurance i had a load of trouble, not about the increase in cc (an 883 was only about 30.00 less than a 1200) but most companies just could not understand the concept of taking an 883 and making it into a 1200 and when i added se pipes and stage 1 they had some kind of breakdown and wanted to call it a 'special' with the resultant 50% increase in cost.

On a slightly larger scale, I replaced my twin cam engine with an S&S 124" ( 2032cc ) motor. I did the DVLA stuff to change it all so that it was all above board. HD Insurance didnt want to play because it wasnt an HD engine. I changed companies, declared all the mods and got a decent deal. If you dont get satisfaction with the company you are with, change to another. |

Hi This has come up a few times before: Insurance - you will need to notify your insurers and this can be a pain in the arse, it certainly was for me as my existing company declined cover and I had to go elsewhere. The increase was not massive but obviously I did lose out a bit. As to DVLA - I did that as well - only because with all this central database of insurance and tax Big Brother carp these days you don't want any discrepancies coming up on the system if you ever had to make a claim. The DVLA were surprising quick to send back a new Reg Document by the way. Enjoy the conversion - with a Stage One (obviously) and th 883 gearing you should now have the pokiest of the Sportsters ... Concur with ChrisH there, my mate went about it the same way, didn't have any bother. I've been on it for a spin, it's a totally different animal to the standard / stage one'd 883, very, very much fun. You're certain to enjoy it, whatever the pain in paying for it. ![]() ern |
