Twin-Discs and Alloy wheels question..

This is a question for those who have a Sporty with twin front discs AND an alloy front wheel.

My problem is that AFTER having some new Venoms put on the bike, I now can hear a "Swishing" sound from the front discs.

I have looked in previous posts and there has been mention of the MoCo turning front wheels around because of a "Resonance Sound" from the wheel.

So, what have you got stamped on your discs.

Mine:-

On the Throttle side it says "Right"
On the Clutch side it says "Left"..

Obvious you think.....

BUT, if the MoCo DID swop the wheel around in manufacture and the person who changed my tyres DIDN'T know about this then am I hearing what the MoCo originally diagnosed.

I know I sounds stupid, the exhaust makes more noise than that, but its been nagging me now for a few months.

ope this all makes sense.

Oh by the way..

I still rag the stuffing out of it..ho hum

see ya

Doh, just realised I won't get an answer to this until its moderated which could be Monday..so bye for now

Re: Twin-Discs and Alloy wheels question..

Hi sKorch,

My 2006 883r is as per yours.

Sitting on the bike Left is Left and Right is Right!

I hope this helps......

Cheers,

Colin.........

Re: Twin-Discs and Alloy wheels question..

Hi, the fix for this was to swap the discs over so the left was on the right and right was on the left and realign the discs.
I suppose turning the wheel around amounts to the same thing but then the tyre would be mounted wrong.
The bulletin is M-1192.
you can read it here.

Dual disc swapping M1192.pdf - File Shared from Box.net - Free Online File Storage

this was from HDTalking.com so, thank them for it.

Re: Twin-Discs and Alloy wheels question..

Now its getting confusing...

My discs have NOT been swopped from original (verified by a photo from when I got the bike in 2005)...

so NO noise with H-D Dunlops on the front, but change to Avon Venoms and voila! Swish-Swish-Swish

All I can think of is its due to the different tyre construction.

I am not worried about the noise so please don't you be.

See ya in a field sometime

bye..........

The swishing noise is more likely to be caused by the alignment of the forks on the spindle.
Try loosening the 2 clamp nuts (not too loose) and gently tapping the fork eiher towards or away from the wheel.
Exactly. Take it back & have them align the forks correctly.

Re: Twin-Discs and Alloy wheels question..

Thanks everybody for your input..

got up early this morning, loosened the pinch bolt and with the help of an A daptor kit (rubber mallet) its has now lost the Swish.......

did notice on the run to work that the tyre still seems to be a bit out of true so I will have to get the bike on its lifter and sort the whole front end out.

Thanks again, I would never had thought of the solution by myself.

Another tick for the Forum

see ya
