| Primary drive problem
Whilst out on the sportster last weekend unknown to me due the sheer pleasure of being out on the open road, the bike manged to dump all it's transmission fluid from a leaky gasket which only became obvious when I had to stop at junction. The noise coming from the transmission was horrendous and something expensive is obviously going to have to be replaced. If anyone out there could give me some idea of what to expect when I remove the chaincase I would be eternally grateful. To get me home I bought some transmission oil and refilled the chaincase. There seems to no problem with the gears as I can select them all and the bike runs and sounds normal when under load but noisey on the overrun and when ticking over in neutral. |

| Re: Primary drive problem
It's strange to loose all the oil from a gasket leak on a single run but, If you are lucky it could be the primary chain slack or adjuster worn, needing taking up or replacing. The clutch should be ok and you want to hope that the gearbox is too. The only way to find out is to have that primary chaincase cover off and posting here again if you can or cannot see anything awry. The cover has to come off to replace the gasket anyway . |
