Do I have a warranty claim?

My Sportster is 14 months old done 11k miles and the rear wheel bearing drive side has collapsed had to get RAC recovery home

Would this be covered under the warranty?

I cant seem to find anything relating to warranty items covered in any paperwork from Harley or on their website.

Thumbs up Re: Do I have a warranty claim?

The details of your warranty are in the Owner's Manual. On the face of it you do have grounds to make a claim, but you should get in touch with your local friendly dealer asap!

A tip! You may be incandescent about the thing packing up in this way, but to get the best outcome keep yourself composed and be polite at all times.

Best of luck and keep us posted.

Re: Do I have a warranty claim?

Have a look at my thread regarding clutch plates. On page 2 of the thread I have listed all the warranty claims carried out on my sporty by my dealership in the past 18 months - they really enjoy seeing me turn up - not sure I'm still on their Xmas card list. In short talk to your dealership and, based on my experiences, I'm sure they'll help you.

Re: Do I have a warranty claim?

Just rang them they cant do nothing till Wednesday as no-one there to recover the bike and they are closed Tuesdays so will have to wait another 2 days, he did however say he did not think there would be a problem with the warranty claim. So wait some more

I took a look at your post and noticed the belt and rear sprocket have been replaced under warranty.
My rear sprocket is looking ropey with the chrome plating coming of the teeth and I have read in the workshop manual that if this happens then it should be replaced as the chrome gives a hard surface for the belt to run on once that is gone the sprocket will wear rapidly. Hope they will replace mine when the bike goes in on Wednesday.

To be honest I am not very happy with having to wait for a week and a half before they can get it in to look at it and also not too happy with their attitiude towards me so far. For example I asked how much it would be to fit a new rear tyre on while they had the wheel out (200 quid) but was told they cant do it at the same time it would need to be booked in separately for that!! cant see the sense in that when they will have the wheel out, plus they have had long enough to book it in anyway.

So far I am just taking whatever they tell me as I need to get this done, but if they persist with the naff attitude somethins going to give

They are making it seem like I am the guilty party and not Harleys workmanship! was thinking about trading for a Fat Bob, but with this attitude its not looking good.

Sure I will find out more on Wednesday

Re: Do I have a warranty claim?

I can understand your frustration. I have found, through necessity, that there are huge differences between dealerships attitudes towards me and the bike but have at last found a dealership sympathetic to the fact that I want to ride the bike every day for my daily commute and are providing an excellent service to me around this.
I found that putting my concerns and requirements into writing to the dealership owner kind of focuses the service departments attitude (although not necessary with current dealer - they have been excellent without any extra encouragement!!).
There is no doubt, however, that I will be buying a different marque of bike to get me through next winter - just to cut down on cleaning time - but I think I still enjoy the bike's style plus comradeship of other Harley riders to buy another sporty or fat bob next spring.
