| Suspension
I've got a 2007 XL 1200R sporty. What can I do with regard to suspension. There's no obvious Harley parts to beef up the front or rear suspension. I know I can do fork oil change on the front but not aware of any other front end improvements. Are there any non Harley rear shocks that I can use to make transporting wife and luggage smoother? | Re: Suspension
Hi Rich, I don't own a Sportster, but there are many possibilities available from the 'alternative' Harley catalogue! In the front end you can fit progressive-rate springs, also Race Tech emulators. The springs will improve ride and the emulators damping control. At the rear end different brand shocks include Hagon and (the confusingly named) Progressive, both of whom also do the fork springs. Do a search, as this topic comes of often and has been covered here quite recently. There is an alternative front damper device, but I don't recall its name. I have Fournales air shocks on the rear of my dresser, which is a further alternative for that end.

I have the Progressive 412 heavy duty on the rear of my 1200C and am very pleased with them. Old ones were 11 3/4" and I replaced them with 12". Yours are a bit longer. Also have replaced the front springs with Progresive springs and 10w synthetic fork oil and it has transformed the ride and handling. They are available from one of the members here. I can recommend them. http://www.harley-davidson-hangout.c...-discount.html |

Thanks Urrell. Taking a short cut to answer Rich's query, he can do worse than take the simple choice of Progressive both ends, or Hagon ditto. Save a lot of messing around!

Mike, There are two other Sportster threads in recent times on the same subject, so scroll back to find them - one imaginatively also named 'suspension'! Look also at the other model forums, as the answers given are applicable to pretty well every model. Get yourself your favourite tipple and have a browse/search!
