I have a year old XL.......folks say that the more you ride them, the better they get...........I put the standard shox on the softest setting......and I try to avoid the potholes. I'm damned if I am forkin' out for new shox......stuff that damn Harley Tax! The seat is better than it was too....mind you......I put on a stone since Xmas! |

My 06 883L was horible after 20 miles with the single seat, those with more natural padding may disagree, I bought an 883R seat on e bay, £50 , much better, but the pillion is crap, the wife lasted about a mile, before asking to get off and walk.

Any suggestions or advice welcome, I can prob manage to fit a new seat myself but I guess I'll need to go somewhere for the springs to be changed?

Unless you are very light the soft setting should be OK. |

Hi Urrell, don't laugh, but I haven't got a clue what setting my shocks are on - how do I find out/adjust them? Regarding weight, I'm about 8st 10, not sure if that's classed as very light! Cheers

If by cocsill(?) you mean your tailbone, you might try modifying the seat yourself. I believe you need to lower the front of the seat to shift weight off of your tailbone and distribute it more forward and more evenly. You might also dish the whole seating area. The idea is to have your weight evenly and fully supported. It's not tough to do. Pull the staples so you can peel the cover back, not off if possible, to expose the area you need to modify. Here's an excellent website that explains the whole process. I've done several. DIYMotorcycleSeat.com - Home Page Take your time, go slow and you can do as good a job as anyone. |

| Re: painful seat
You can undeniably improve the quality of your ride by changing suspension, but that is not going to make you more comfortable! I also caution against using any add on pad, as that is still not addressing the source of your problem, namely what sounds like a crap seat! I have a Sundowner on my Dyna, which is made in both solo and dual versions, not sure if there is a Sportster solo version. I have a Corbin 'bucket' seat on my dresser, which gives a wide shaped firm cushion, which is remarkably comfortable, although my wife finds her department less so. Seats are a difficult topic, simply because there are a confusing variety, most of which you can dismiss as far too many concentrate on looks rather than comfort. So Harley touring seats, Mustang, possibly Corbin. If you want to look cool on short trips and be comfortable on longer ones, then you may need two seats.
