painful seat

Can anyone help me. When i go for a long ride on my Sportster my arse gets really numb and painful especially my cocsill(?). Is it the suspension or can i change the seat. It is a solo seat. Can anyone recommend a nice comfortable solo seat.

Re: painful seat

Ive got a Brawler on my 07 1200c, really comfortable, however just got a solo from Harely Seats in the US... low profile made from Millenium Foam, the stuff they sue in the space shuttle seats super shock absorbing properties... Plus I replaced the front springs with stiffer ones (Grizzleys Folkestone) plus a denser fork oil and 412 progressive shock.. most probs gone now...

Re: painful seat

Alternative is to strengthen your arse !!
Try shuffling across the floor twice a day , great buttock stengthening exercise and costs nothing.
You have got to be a real man to ride a sporty mate !!

Re: painful seat

Get yourself a Mustang vintage or daytripper solo. Serious comfort.

Re: painful seat

I just bought new coil overs and stainless springs from Hagans along with progressive front springs. I've only fitted the rear (300mm height) and the difference is very noticeable. No more bottoming out at the back and it turns in quicker. Still need to do the front's when I get a moment. I'm loking for a solo seat as most of my riding is solo.

I got a sundowner seat for my wife and daughter to be more comfortable but it tends to slide me towards the tank even solo. Don't like the feel of it but it's much more comfortable for them.

Re: painful seat

A nice thick wadge of sheepskin rug does the trick for me, and, it only cost a few quid from allied carpets.

Cool Re: painful seat

Plenty of fried food and beer. The sportie may struggle with all that extra weight, but it's a lot more comfortable, and I have to say, "become a salad dodger!"
It works for me!

Re: painful seat

I must say i bought one of those silicone things that sit on the seat. But it hasnt made the slightest difference. I think first thing im going to do is buy a mustang vint, see if that does the trick. If it dont i think i'll change the shocks next. If that dont work god knows. But thanks everyone for your advice. I'm new to this Harley thing but already on my sporty i've put mini apes and forward controls. So i'm learning.
