Mini apes or bar risers?

I'm thinking of fitting either mini apes or bar risers to my 56 plate 1200 sporty. Has anyone done any of these and what's your opinion?
According to the Harley parts catalogue mini apes would not need any change to the cable lengths.

Re: Mini apes or bar risers?

It depends on what particular look you're going for but any significant increase in bar height by any method will need longer cables - 2 x throttle and clutch and maybe some fancy clamps to guide the cables. You also might have to lengthen the electrical cables too.

Never liked buckhorns myself - didn't like the pullback aspect - thought it made the handling a bit twitchy. I went for same rise but no pullback.

---Z bars and dogleg risers, there the future, bitch to get the wiring through the bars though, but clutch and throttle must be about standard.

Just fitted 32" drag bars on maine. Transformed the handling but I may try a 2" riser if everything reaches. Before with the stock bars it was as has been said 'twitchy'. Now it can stay with most street fighter's and sit up n beg bikes through A road traffic.

Cables/brake pipe could be re-routed to give you a bit of slack but with risers do you have enough slack in the wiring harness for the speedo/ idiot lights as these are part of the handle bar clamp?

Re: Mini apes or bar risers?

Thanks, they are so much more comfortable on a long ride too. They could do with being 1/2" more swept back so I will get them perfectly flat and mock up a 2" rise to see if everything reaches. Having a friend pin stripe the tank, nothing too outlandish but it will be noticable and maybe get the new seat recovered to match the stock design. I think thats about it without going OTT as is so easy to do with these bikes.
