Yes, they can be made to run a little better with cones or whatever but not as good as a well tuned exhaust.

T.I.C. Don't take my word for it buy them put them on, I'm sure your Sportster will run really well, because all peformance bikes today have this style of exhaust on
I would never had thought of that, I would had assumed they were made 'fit for purpose'. I will see if I can get a tech spec, and if you dont mind, cast your eye over it and let me know what you think... ? Yep style does come into it... if I could find upturned fishtails I would definately heve them...

True, but I think we all want the bike to run well, don't we? Ignore Dastardly's advice at your peril!

To be fair, they don't claim them to be performance items, just that they'll turn heads. They prob will and most will have blue lights on.
For performance I'd have said the first problem is one is so much longer than the other.Seems to me the norm with V twins is to put an extra bend in the back pipe to give more length or stagger the ends.

Re: Swept up Pipes for Sportsters

if you really like the look, and I can see why, then you should be able to drill and fit some baffles into them if they are drag pipes, which they probably are. Not hard to find baffles.....

Re: Swept up Pipes for Sportsters

I feel the need to stick up for drag pipes a bit here.

I have 2" Khromewerks drags on my Sporty, baffles in when I bought it and now baffles out.

The performance is not lacking in the mid range in any way, although I appreciate it is not a tuned system and will not give any mid range advantage. The other point is that it performs slightly better and revs freer with the baffles out.

It certainly performs better than the standard strangler silencers. I love the upswept pipes and thought about getting the Zantee upswepts with fishtails but they don't make them for the XL.

I would say go for it. They look great and your performance won't suffer.
