It is a friction device on the twistgrip. So you can screw it in to stop the throttle closing when you let the twistgrip go. You can even adjust it on the go, hence use it to hold the throttle open, like OrangeR says!

It is a little bit of a dinosaur. It was used to lock the throttle while warming up the bike. You were supposed to push in the choke & lock the throttle slightly open while the engine warmed. You could also use it as a kind of cruise control. Be very careful though, it can be dangerous.

I just use mine to provide a little friction, so the twistgrip doesn't snap closed. I have not previously heard of the warming up thing! I have fitted them to BMWs as well. They were common on British bikes old chap, so I have used variations of them for most of my motorcycling life.

I thought it was used by mechanics to set the revs at a certain level for adjusting timings etc? And as a simple but "iffy" cruise control ![]() I used it on the motorway and confused the f*ck out of everybody as I could wave back at them with me right hand!!! |

Not really needed now, but I still can't get used to the throttle snapping shut, so still keep a little friction on it.
