Timing Cover

Need a little help here: I bought a replacement timing cover off eBay but am unsure what is holding the original on. It looks like possibly allen key screws but I'm not sure and don't want to burr them getting them out. Also look a little like rivets from the outside but unlikely, I guess. If Allen key, anyone know what size.

Haynes is no help.

I'm only changing it cos the original's finish is slightly corroded and I saw a bargain.

Re: Timing Cover

They may me small "Torx" heads which are different to allen keys, more of a Star shape. I'm sure a Sporter owner or 2 will come to the rescue on this one.

Re: Timing Cover

Not ultra familiar with newer bikes, but traditionally there are two threaded holes for you to use when you swap out the cover or simply pop the orig rivets.

Why would they use rivets?

Supposed to be tamper proof for emissions purposes.

Re: Timing Cover

Last question on this one from me:

If I drill the rivets out and find there are threads, what size will they be and if there are no threads, what do I do next.

I know this thread is a bit basic and probably a little irritating for some but I've not had the bike long and am still trying to get my head round a few things such as the Imperial system and the array of different bolt heads on the bike, hardly any of my tools fit.
