Risers

Sorry in advance for going over old ground but I have done some searches and am still in doubt.

I am thinking of putting on some 4" risers with a 1/2 pullback. Will I require new cables etc. or can I use the existing ones? Anything else I should consider?

2001 883 XLH by the way.

Cheers!

Re: Risers

Does it have stock bars ?.

If you have stock bars you should be fine except for the brake line.

You may have to re-route a couple.

Re: Risers

I have a set sitting here that I mistakenly bought 2 weeks ago instead of 2" risers going very cheap. Still in box. I will say they looked great but the speedo leccy cables wouldn't reach.

Re: Risers

They are stock bars Phil.

Adam, I'm thinking that extending electrical cables and a new break line and speedo cable is more trouble than it's worth for me. Would the two inch risers go on without any alterations? If not I think I'll give the whole thing a miss until I come into some money so I can pay a competent person to do it for me. Any cash I have at the moment is going towards a seat that doesn't give me a sore arse after fifty miles.

Thanks to both of you for your comments, appreciate it.

Re: Risers

Hi Paul

I tried this a lot of years ago on a Sporty - even though I'd only gone for the 4" I seem to remember I was looking at a lot of new stuff - brake hose, carb cables (2), clutch, speedo - plus extending all the leccy cables to fit properly. The risers went back in the pack carefully cleaned, sealed up and returned to the Dealer for a refund.

Re: Risers

I deleted my thread because like the blonde twat I am I ordered 4" risers & not the 2 " I needed!!!

4" wont reach electrical cable wise but I took off the warning light cable and the speedo one stretched but..... the 1/2" pull back put the speedo housing (as it's part of the top clamp) at an almost 90* angle. I don't know if you have the same set up or not, I would have mentioned it before selling to you. It kinda looks ok but not right plus I'd imagine a sod to read.

2" risers would be absolutely no problem at all & I'll get a set of those as soon as I have a moment to get back on flea bay but this time they will be straight up. I may see if I can find some with the pull back but the top is machined to bring the speedo back to the stock angle.

Re: Risers

Speedo bolt width is the same as the headlamp eyebrow mounting bolts.

Use long bolts & spacers, it will install looking normal.
