RK passing lamps

Have just blown 1 of my passing lamps and had to find a replacement H3 12volt 35 watt bulb needless to say ended up at the local dealership
Could I have replaced both of them with H3 55watt bulbs much easier to find down at halfords or would i have risked frying my wiring loom or worse.
Anyone done this, replaced the bulbs that is ?

You could search but will not find any definite leads if yours are recent lamps as Peps and myself have like this
