Avon Cobras

Anyone using these tyres....how are they wearing? Rear on my FXR is squaring off and white lining noticeably after about 3000 miles

Re: Avon Cobras

What pressures are you putting in them? You know they should be 10% more than Dunlops..

Wow......almost airborne?

If unhappy, try Metzeler 880s....you won't be sorry. In my experience.

Re: Avon Cobras

Recently fitted Cobras to my FXRS but due to the shocking weather only done 500 miles on them. Impressed with them

Have always used Metzlers Marathons before but, after failing confidence in the rear. decided to try Avons. The Avons seem to heat up a lot more so may not last as long as Metz

3000 miles doesnt appear to be much but I recall my mate saying he only expected about 4000 from his Avons which were fitted to a 90s Anni Dyna. That being the case maybe 3000 is close to the replacement point? Have to say that the '4000' miles were usually at a fair turn of speed

Re: Avon Cobras

I and a few of my mates have used Venoms for some years now. I put a Cobra on my RK last year and it seems OK. At the end of June I put a Cobra on my Shovel and a mate of mine put one on his Sportster. Since then the Sportster has done about 1500 miles and no difference has been noted in handling in the dry or wet. The shovel felt (before a puncture at Tebay) much improved but has only done about 200 miles.

Is that the recommendation on the Avon website, because that's my tyre pressures on the RK?

Is most your riding on motorways? This can cause squaring off even if the tyre pressures are spot on, were the wheels balanced when the new Cobras were fitted?

Yeah, I must add that grip wise there fantastic....even in the wet.....I'm regularly running out of ground clearance and they don't let go even with sparks flying so there obviously a pretty soft compound.
Must admit having tried them I would be wary of giving up that wet weather performance for something longer lasting......cake and eat it situation then.

Avon recommended pressures for the FXR is 36 front and 40 rear and they were balanced when fitted. The front feels more susceptible to pressure changes whereas the rear seems less so
