Was looking at a bike recently with a view to buying. Problem was the VIN on the frame was unreadable as the frame had I guess been repainted. Anyone know if this is likely to cause any problems with MOT etc? cheers Bill |

| Re: Vin
Not just with MOT but for peace of mind that is is perfectly legal. I would want to see clearly the vin number whether it had been painted 100 times, matching the documents. But that's just me?

Thanks Baza, that was exactly how I felt. I've asked them to try and clean off the paint but at the moment I've walked away from it. cheers Bill |

This is what the MOT regulations say- "A vehicle identification number, chassis or VIN, is required on all vehicles first used on or after 1st August 1980 except kit cars and amateur built vehicles. Where one is not displayed when required then the vehicle will fail" So buying any vehicle without a vin,/with a unreadable vin numbers, may well come back and bite you. Apart from the fact that without a vin number to check, you have no idea were the frame originated from. |

If you are not familiar with the styles used by H-D then get along to your local $tealer and nose around the headstocks so that you become familiar before you buy. Just having a number on the frame that matches the V5 is not good enough in my book.
