Strongarm Lift

Has anyone used one of these?
Harley Davidson Motorcycle Lift | Strong Arm

I have got a 2007 HD Dyna Low rider and wonder if this would be of any use for when I just wanted to clean-up the wheels.

Re: Strongarm Lift

We use a similar item every day, but a heck of a lot cheaper. We weld them together from square section. Piece of cake. Measure from the ground to the bottom of the frame & add a couple of inches. Make an oblong, then add a lever. You can add some kind of protection to one of the long sides to protect the frame paint.

Re: Strongarm Lift

We were here before in 2003, when someone gave me the details for this:
$20 Bike Lift
Same principle, different materials, and using wood has the advantage that it can be constructed by those with no metal working skills or equipment...
Still be interested to see some diemnsions for Phil's metal one though...

Those lifts are over priced, they were selling them in Makro last month for less than £40, i bought one! exactly the same spec etc

Re: Strongarm Lift

So, from what you are saying, they seem effective just over priced.

I am sure that it will work to lift the front wheel but I am not sure where it will have to go to raise the rear.

My low rider has a sump positioned in such a way that if you use the HD lift (or Americana 2 etc) you need an adaptor kit to clear the sump.

What attracted me to this option is I can use it on my own when I just want to clean the wheels rather than having to have two of us there as I do when I use the Americana2.

Re: Strongarm Lift

My Clarke lift from Machine Mart came with a loose step, which is supposed to sit on top of the lift, to clear Dyna sumps. I have a Softail, so can't verify how well it works.

Re: Strongarm Lift

I've got the Ebay one, had it for 2 years.

It's a good piece of kit but is a bit of a gamble single handed, you have to hold the bike upright to get the stand under the frame before you start to lift it.

Once up there it is very stable, my bike spends most of the winter up on it to give the suspension a rest.

I'm in the process of making up the $20 lift to overcome the instability issue, use the lever stand first and then slide the big lift under.

Re: Strongarm Lift

Just thought of something else re the Strongarm

The only demo shows the bike which is being lifted as not being fitted with
side panniers. Will the lift arm be affected by panniers particularly when
lifting the rear wheel?

Looks a near thing to me
