... coating for chrome to get a shiny black finish, powder-coating, paint or...? All the 'chrome' on my RK is black and I don't want a chrome tacho.

Don't try to powder coat chrome plated accessories (or anything else for that matter) it doesn't work too well. If you simply must have a black tacho;I'm assuming that you intend using the H-D original tacho kit for Road Kings; then see if you can get someone to remove the chrome from the casing and then powder coat. Alternatively if you don't mind having a larger tacho mounted on the handlebar clamp use one from a FXDX etc (available in black)

In the past I've seen platers advertise "black chrome".
Would that be the finish you're after?
