| Gps. I have a pal who's interested in getting a biker gps, he's not sure which to pick, he's not online and asked me to find out the info on the Tom tom Rider and the Garmin Zumo 500/550, can anyone who has had use of these m/c give me some info as to what is the best or is it just down to price? Cheers Dave

| Re: Gps. Hi littledave Have you looked at the other information on gps's on this forum. Trevor was asking the same question. I bought the garmin zumo550, the difference between the garmin 500 and 550 is that the 550 has european maps. I bought the zumo mainly for the mp3 player and the european maps but if he does not intend going abroad the 500 would be perfect. Also with the 550 you get the car kit which I also use in the car. The mp3 player is ok but sounds a bit tinny, if he's got loud exhaust pipes might be difficult to hear at speeds. The zumo also warns you of any speed cameras whilst you are driving. You can use the phone if your mobiles supports bluetooth, I use everything through bluetooth ( phone, intercom and mp3 player), the pillion can listen to music as well as phone conversations. He would have to use a bluetooth helmet, I myself use a scala rider teamset which just clips onto your helmet. The bike mount is excellent for the zumo and the carkit is very good, though you might want to fit an external microphone in the car as the zumo has a microphone built in but you might want to increase the sound. It is also dead easy to use, fully waterproof and will work by entering co-ordinates from OS maps if you wanted to do hiking. The only drawback is if your friend does not have a computer he will not be able to download the instructions ( 69 pages ) in pdf format as the zumo does not come with any instructions. You also get maps that you can install onto the computer where you enter waypoints and download to your GPS. No experience of the tomtom rider but have heard tomtom are fetching a new model out. I would fully recommend the zumo as I have had various different GPS's and this seems to be the best. Feel free to email if you need any more info. Hope this helps. Brian |

| Re: Gps. I have just bought the Garmin Zumo 550, it seems easy enough to set up. Works well in the car, I have just hard wired into my Glide. We are off to Freewheeling Kempen on Thursday, via the BikerLoft Hotel in Oudenburg. we have done this journey many times so we will see how good it is. The information to the East Mids Rally was a bit optimistic even for a Saturday. 142 miles in 2 hours and four minutes?
