I was looking at the Midland Alan 42 (which covers the whole of Europe). It also seems to connect to my Starcom intercom. If it does turns out that the Ultra riders are on the USA settings, Midland market a similar radio in the US, which cosmetically, looks the same (although the model number is completely different) - and is cheaper!

Not fussed about speaking to truckers and other UK users - just fellow harley riders!

This is the midland radio:
THUNDERPOLE - Midland 42 C.B. Radio Handheld
Yes that's the model though mine is an earlier model. I also have the hands free kit, which works OK in a helmet. For regular use on a bike I would fit a mini ariel with a good earth. I use the Rubber Duck as it's short and indestructible. This will give a good range in stuff like mountain passes, etc, where the standard ariel will not be so reliable. Do you have a cigar lighter / accessory feed? Using AA batteries will not last for a long trip if the rig is in regular use.

I have dealt with Thunderpole, but I usually use Communication Eleven Homepage - UK 4x4 CB Radio Specialists - Expert Advice, Competitive Prices & knowledgeable staff - now in our tenth year of trading (Jim). Very knowledgable and has every obscure adopter you could imagine in stock....and usually better on price!

As I said my CB transceiver has a plate on the side with "GB" on it. The rules on CBs vary so much over the world. In some markets CBs can't be fitted to bikes (Japan ??) So would expect the International Models to be Kosher on the CB fitted just as much as running lights and stuff. Not a bit surprised that the dealers don't know. I was told that the CB was USA frequencies but I was also told that I needed rear brake pads for my Ironhead.
Thanks again. That gives me more confidence to get the BG/Euro multiband one!

See you on the airwaves (good buddy lol).

Which aerial mount would you suggest for the Ultra Standard (Ultra Standard's rear is like a Road King).

Aha I assumed you had a Tourpak to mount it on but I guess you don't. There are numerous clamps available for pretty obscure mounting. I suggest you contact one of the suppliers for more detailed recommendation....most are extremely helpful.

See this page for info on how to identify CB sets for UK use.
