Fitting a Grandeur Cycle Auto Clutch

This is the clutch as supplied by Grandeur Cycles, it's basically a set of ball bearings set in a series of ramps & sandwiched between two aluminium discs.
Like the variable pressure clutch, or BDLs lock up clutches it works on centrifugal force the harder it is revved the more the plates are forced apart and the more the clutch is actuated.

First of all the primo clutch (there available for almost any set up or model of H-D now) was removed and stripped down for a couple of alterations,

6 securing holes had to be drilled and tapped to hold the auto clutch on to the outer clutch bell. And 4 bolts have to be changed for shorter ones on the inner bell,
The inner bell was then pressed back in to the outer,- & the clutch pack was measured to give the required clearance.

The clutch assembly was refitted to the bike, the clutch pack put back in & the auto clutch screwed and locktited down.- belt back on and the front pulley back on and torqued up.

All done and dusted,-After a bit of setting up, It does exactly what they claim, It sits at standstill in gear without touching the clutch controls, it will change gear at low revs with no pulling the clutch. it makes the clutch extremely light at any speed,- even with a primo brute 1V clutch it can be pulled with 1 finger.

Next week I'll get a video of it working. but here's one of there company ones, I was sceptical at first but now I think it was maybe the best money I've spent on this bike for a long time,-well pleased. I know some in the US think of it as the soft option but they don't, ride a suicide clutch setup with a f**ked up arm through heavy traffic on the north circular regularly.

Got a freind to buy it out of state,- tax free for me $550 and flew over to pick it up, got a few other little bits that more than paid for the flight.

So thanks to H.M customs & excise,- that weekends bar bill was on you.

Re: Fitting a Grandeur Cycle Auto Clutch

I'll post a video of it in the week BaZa, got to wait until I've got the suspension back on and sorted first (waiting for seals), but use it how you want.

If you give it a good handful though it will do burn outs at ease,- probably not a bright idea with rear Avons at getting on for £200 each.
