Synthetic Oil

Found this on ebay, did some searching and located a number of forums where the question of Lucas Oils had been raised.

One US thread included this reply from Lucas.

Thanks for looking to Lucas for your Cycle Solutions. Lucas 20w50 Synthetic
Racing Oil would be great in that Harley. The only thing better would be to
go with Lucas Synthetic SAE 20W-50 Motorcycle Oil, part # 10702. We'd also
recommend adding 3oz of Lucas Pure Synthetic Oil Stabilizer per quart of oil
capacity in both crankcase and transmission. This would be the best by a
nose over the Lucas Racing Oil.
Thanks again,
John Mingus

I enquired today at my local indy about the price of fully synth and was quoted £13.75 per litre.

I've ordered 20 litres of the Lucas 20/50 racing syth for £70. Bargain.

10702 - Lucas High Performance Motorcycle Oil - Synthetic 20W-50

Lucas High Performance Motorcycle Oil - Synthetic SAE 20W-50 Lucas Motorcycle Oil is built for endurance, lasting up to 4 times longer than other brands. It will also lower oil temperatures, extend the life of vital components, reduce noise and leaks, and increase performance. The SAE 20W-50 is also an excellent gear oil and primary oil. All Lucas Motorcycle Oils meet JASO specifications. 1 Quart

Does John Mingus know that Harleys are air cooled?

Just a thought.

Is this oil for air cooled engines?

Re: Synthetic Oil

It doesn't matter, but being 20/50 it will be OK for air cooled.

Re: Synthetic Oil

The advantage of synthetic oil is its ability to withstand high temperatures over long periods of time without breaking down.

Re: Synthetic Oil

They do a 1 litre of specific Harley Davidson approved oil.....

Harley Davidson Approved 20w50 Synthetic Engine Oil on eBay, also, Other Motorcycle Parts, Motorcycle Parts Accessories, Cars, Parts Vehicles (end time 08-Aug-08 1101 BST)

Thats £7.50 a litre + £6 shipping, he will do a postage bundle for multiple bottles.

There is little difference between the HD approved and the Racing synthetic. The Racing spec does match the criteria in the manual for a compatible oil.

I change the oil every year, way before the service mileage. It'll do no harm.
