Re: Gloves

Monkeybrain is right - I've had expensive & cheap gloves & the waterproofing side of things has been much the same, stiched leather ultimately leaks & the membrane lining breaks down. I get that thing where your fingers go numb & white from the knuckle down, even when its not cold. For the past few years now I've had a mid price pair of gloves (£45). Every few months I put them on then make like I'm washing my hands with a good dollop of leather waterproofer then leave them over night (other wise you get it all over your bars) to soak in. For keeping warm, buy a pair of wollen "liner" gloves from any camping or walking shop cost about £5. You wear them under your gloves & they buy you more time before the cold bites. They increase the insulation against the bars vibration which also helps, finally, wear them when its really hot (honest) & you can take your gloves at the garage without pulling the finger linings inside out when your hands are sweaty & sticking to the inside thus avoiding hours of entertainment trying to push the inside of your glove back in the right fingers while everyone else waits for you!

Re: Gloves

Had quite a few sets of gloves from hien gerrick- they all seem pretty waterproof. The big thing is to get a pair that fit correctly. Your fingers should be just shy of the end of the gloves fingers - if they touch then your going to get cold hands. Ski gloves may be good a keeping the water out (which I'm not sure of cos every pair of snowboard gloves I have leave my hands wet after a couple of hours - but that could just be snow getting in there!) however they will lack the protection given by a good set of bike gloves. Ski gloves after all aren't designed to protect you hands while bouncing down a tarmac road!

Silk inners also work VERY well under gloves.

Just my two pennies

That's exactly what I use. Hien Gerrick Pathan 2 finger mitts. Totaly waterproof so far after 3 years and very warm. When it's really cold I wear a pair of silk inners as well

Are they the type that have their own batteries or are they linked to the bikes?

I was thinking that about Ski gloves, warm, but no protection.

They sound just the ticket, and you think the silk liners help too eh. I've been wondering about them too.

It would be interesting to hear if they make much of a difference. Let us know how it goes if you get some.

I got the same pair and they're really good at keeping yer pinkies warm upto about an hour then the cold starts to bite, so it's of with the gloves and put them on the end of the exhaust for a few minutes while you have a fag or whatever.
By the way these two finger mitts are hopeless for giving the middle finger if you ever get pissed off!
