Re: air filter cleaning

From looking at their website, they use K&N air filters, so you need a K&N cleaning/oiling kit. They have them on the Kuryakyn site here K&N Filter Care Kit | Air Cleaners | Küryakyn

but you can buy a kit in the UK, just google it, I see that Halfords sell them. Dont use anything else, as it can mess up your filter.

Re: air filter cleaning

Here's my routine:

Rattle around in hot water and degreaser in a bucket, allow to soak.
Flush through with hot clean water, inside to out (reverse of air flow).
Blow through from inside to outs with some compressed air if available, if not take outside and 'fling' it (without letting go) to expel excess water.
Allow to dry naturally.
Spray from inside to outside with carb cleaner.
Allow to evaporate off naturally.
Filter should now look whitish.

Apply K&N filter oil spray lightly to outside of filter.

Hey presto, like new.

Refit.

No, don't use compressed air to dry filter, I use it to blow out excess water, taking care not to distort filter.
Always blow inside to outside as dirt will be on outside of filter.
As K&N rightly state "use of compressed air, heat guns etc" could damage filter. Please note instructions are written for dim wits with no common sense.

If uncomfortable with that, take filter outside and swing round to fling off excess, then leave to dry naturally (not on radiator etc).

Then re-apply K&N filter oil.

Re: air filter cleaning

Makes you wonder why we bother.

When someone uses an air gun to blow the filter dry as suggested (use compressed air) and blows holes in the filter media you could reply to that too.

Be a bit silly to follow the manufactures instructions wouldn't it
