Thumbs up Ride to the wall 11th October 2008: Support all our fallen troops.

This is being run on SATURDAY 11th OCTOBER in the Birmingham area

I think we should make a show there, it looks like a good event similar to Hogin the bridge this is a good one if you haven't done it.

CHEPSTOW makes a big effort to make bikers welcome , and close the town to.

A small contingent of Harley Davidson riders from the UK attended the first Remembrance Day service at the National Memorial Arboretum near Burton on Trent on 11th November 2007.

At the memorial there is a ‘wall’ with 16000 names on, remembering our troops that have died since WW2 through one cause or another.

It was noticed that were a large number of younger people in attendance with the service a very moving experience. It was mentioned by those riders attending as something that should be marked yearly, similar to the event held in the United States, but obviously on a smaller scale.

One of those riders at the event was Martin Dickinson, Director of Nene Valley Chapter who brought the idea of an annual event up at the HOG UK Directors meeting in late 2007. There was an overwhelming response from his fellow Directors and every encouragement given to plan such an event.

After the meeting, offers soon came in to assist with both the administrative side as well as the planning side of the event. This was to be another case of UK Chapter working closely together in planning a single event.

The first RTTW UK event will be taking place at the Armed Forces Memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum on Saturday 11th October 2008 and raising funds for the upkeep of the memorial. It is hoped that you can join us in remembering those that can no longer ride by our side.

Registration from 0930 at Tamworth Services. The Moto services have a Travel lodge if anyone is interested.

Depart services 1100. Bikes with Chapter flags flying will ride at the front.
Arrive Arboretum approx 1130. Bikes will park up either side of Millenium Avenue.

The 'Parade of Flags' bikes will form a 'Guard of Honour'
Service on the steps in front of the Armed Forces memorial 1215.
The service will last approx 15 minutes starting with a Piper
Short memorial service
Buglar playing Last Post
Depart Arboretum 1330
There will be one group ride going to Stratstones at Birmingham and one group ride going back to Silverstone HD (Towcester)

Re: Ride to the wall

Yep, I'm going.

Will ride up from Hampshire on the Saturday morning. Happy to join anyone else at a convenient meeting point somewhere on route. We could always meet up at Tamworth Services where the actual event registration is taking place from 9:30 am but I would personally prefer to arrive with other members of HDRCGB.

This is from their website Ride To The Wall UK Home Page

The Arboretum is located between Birmingham and Derby, just off the A38 north of Lichfield and south of Burton on Trent. You will see brown signs from the A38 directing you to the A513 junction signposted for Tamworth, where you will find the Arboretum. The address is Croxall Road, Alrewas, Staffordshire DE13 7AR.

Registration from 0930 at Tamworth Services. The Moto services have a Travel lodge if anyone is interested.
Depart services 1100. Bikes with Chapter flags flying will ride at the front.

Thumbs up Re: Ride to the wall

Hi All
Further to my last, I knew, I knew a camp site not far from the wall. Its the one I used for Boss's farewell (Just up the road from Silv's and within walking distance of the pub) its about 14 miles from the wall and the options are ride from there to the wall or too Tamworth services to join the formal ride-in. Anyway I have a plan forming. Fri. Horsham up to the camp site. Sat. to the wall then a ride out and back to camp site. Sun. early ride down to Cirencester to organise some tandum para jumps with my Son. As I said still in the planning stage but if anyone is interested let me know. Would be nice if HDRCGB were to ride in together.

Re: Ride to the wall

I really fancy doing this, I think it's a shame we don't do as much of this type of stuff in this country as the Americans do.

Anyone from North Derbyshire/South Yorkshire going?

Let me know more as your plan comes together. Could always go up Friday night and camp over. Agree, it would be good for a bunch of HDRCGB to ride together. By the way, do we have any Club flags we could proudly display on our bikes to compliment the HOG Chapter flags ?

I may be wrong, but I'd guess your route from Lincs may well be similar at some point to mine from Derbyshire.
