Bowling Night Report HDRCGB v HOG

Harley Davidson Riders Club of Great Britain

The Bowling Challenge

‘9th Feb’ at Morecombe

An excellent turn out for the bowling night at Morecombe, There were approximately 47 attendees, all willing to be mocked & ridiculed. Preston Hog had lanes 1, 2 & 3 Riders club had lane 5 and the Wrecking Crew had lane 6, Lane 4 was used for all the remaining players and was a mixed team of Hog/HDRCGB/Northern Harley Club and even a Caledonian member, we named this team the ‘Oddballs’.

I won’t embarrass any team in particular by printing the scores, suffice to say that our team ‘HDRCGB’ started off quite badly at the start, got worse in the middle, and tailed off toward the end of the game, in fact we had to raise our game to achieve last place.

It was fascinating to see the weird and wonderful styles of bowling in our team, not dissimilar to Kung Fu styles, the ‘hopping frog’, the ‘constipated crane’ the ‘demented duck’ and the ‘harassed hen’, all wondrous to watch but absolutely feckin useless for bowling. Shed surprised us all and got our first strike (we are going to club together & buy him a bowling glove), shortly after that I changed my technique and got another strike for the team, I think ill stick with the ‘tripping over the shoelace’ style in future, as it seemed to work.

Hippy looked resplendent in his tie dye purple sweatshirt, orange & blue pants and bright red bowling shoes …a selection from his ‘Pavement Pizza’ spring collection… Vivian Westwood must be quaking in her boots. Hippy struggled with various bowling techniques all which resulted in the bowl curling into the gutter, this was resolved when he took his wallet out of his back pocket which was affecting his swing. Mick & Helen gave a stirling performance and knocked down 15 skittles … and it only took 15 balls to do it …I am sure that if Mick had dropped a bowling ball, he would have missed the bl**dy floor. We drafted in Dave Kiberd and Roger Tomlinson to add weight and experience to our team, the combined weight was 30 stone and sadly the experience was in woodworking and computers… ‘Not much use when you are loosing a bowling game’

Thanks must also go to Carl, Elaine, Anna, Sue, Denise and Fiona who all gave valiant efforts and without their help the final scores would have probably been the same. (Next year I will coax the ladies to do some cheerleading as well …. “GO Hippy GO ….fer feck sake just GO”!!!!)

I couldn’t help but think whilst we were playing, that elsewhere in the world the dumb balance was being restored.

Final results were Oddballs in first place with the Wrecking Crew in second place, which just goes to prove that although different clubs may have different ideas and beliefs, when you pool their combined resource and experience together, a carefully blended mixture of all clubs working together as one coherent unit …It was still crap …but better and more experienced class of crap than any other team.

I think everyone had a terrific time, thanks to all who attended to make the night a success

Thanks also to Preston Harley Davidson and Red Rose Chapter of HOG who donated a T shirt which we presented to Kirsty who skilfully, single handedly and without the aid of a safety net achieved the lowest score.

Any photos I get from the official HOG grand wizard poobah photographic officer will be sent to the quin with the report

I would just like to add to Cliff's, Bowling night report by saying that the rumours that Cliff and Roger both bought a round are just that rumoursDave Kibbard said he wasn't bothered about loosing as he's an Everton supporter and he's use to it.Now to pinch a catchy tune /song for the next time the riders take on other clubs at bowling i thought labours "things can only get better "could be our song
Glad everyone had a great time

Re: Bowling Night Report HDRCGB v HOG

Excellent and amusing write up, should be in the Quinn .

The Coasters have an annual bowling match with the Triumph Owners Club.
They put at least one good player on each alley, only have two girls in the team and I suspect several bowlers don't own Triumph motorcycles .
They are extremely competitive and after their young ladies have totted up the scores, they tell us we have lost.....nothing throws them more than the massed band of the Coasters bursting into laughter. They found it so psychologically disturbing one year, we were told we had won...but I have my doubts .
If there was an Owners Club league I am sure the Coasters would be proud to be bottom and practice getting progressively worse...just to reinforce our position.
The burger and chips are usually very nice .

That's a lot of balls innit

Nice write up Cliff, it'll act as an inspiration down here in Coasterland when we do battle with the Triumph Club next month

Re: Bowling Night Report HDRCGB v HOG

Dave seemed to be under the impression that we we all staying the night in Morecambe - in Morecambe??

Cliff really didn't do his own contribution to the evening justice - two fingers up his nostrils and he made a near-perfect bowling ball. As for Hippy - what a sport, turned up in a full pantomime clown's outfit complete with red nose
