visit to the lakes

Hi

Travelloing from the flats of Lincolnshire, and staying at the Brotherswater Inn for 3 days next week. Although we've been to the lakes many times, this is a first on a Harley, any recommendations for ride outs, or places to avoid? The weather is forecast to be wet (Surprise!), I was thinking of around Keswick, honister pass one day?

Thanks for that Mort, yes they're great places to visit, quite thought someone from the lakes would reply, rather than a fellow yellowbelly!!

Re: visit to the lakes

Welcome to the land of rain and beauty. The weather is going to be bad and but it is still all here to enjoy.
A route. Go north to Keswick and then west on the A66, follow this to the coast and take coffee at Whitehaven or St Bees Head or Ravenglass. Continue down the coast road A595 until Silecroft follow the same A595 road for about 7k.
Then as you descend a long hill down to traffic lights a decision.
Staying straight on will take you to Greenodd where you turn left to Kendal and then up to Keswick.
If the weather is good and you are not too tired and feeling brave. Turn left at the lights over the bridge. Go all the way along this lane to Cockley Beck and you can then go over Wynose pass. From here you can choose to go through Little Langdale or Langdale itself. Both routes will lead you to Ambleside. From here you could go up ‘The Struggle’ to the Kirkstone Inn or on to Windermere and left back up to Kirkstone. And then home. Please read a map for this route from the lights.
What ever you do, stay safe and enjoy my back yard.
PS DO NOT GO OVER HARDKNOT PASS!

Re: visit to the lakes

Thanks for the route Andy, I was definitely giving the hardnot and wrynose a miss as the Rutland HOG chapter did it last year and wished they had'nt!! I was thinking of the ashness bridge etc as Mort suggested, but also the Honister pass, I've done it in a car some years ago but can't remember whether it would be suitable for a Harley. We'll be in the Brotherswater Inn, Patterdale for 3 nights if you fancy a drink?

Re: visit to the lakes

Thanks for the reply, Hippy, I'd considered Hartside as well, looks an interesting run! I'd also thought of heading towards Borrowdale after the Ashness bridge, and then over the Honister Pass towards Buttermere and Crummock Water, any opinions on that? Is the Honister pass as steep as the Wrynose?

We also now have the petrol crisis to consider!!

David

PS I think the Rutland HOG Chapter is with you this weekend, about 30 bikes I'm told.

Re: visit to the lakes

Hi Dave,
Honister is easy. Its just Hardknott that you need to avoid. Enjoy.

Re: visit to the lakes

Hi Dave,
I almost forgot. Dont take the Ulpha Fell road from Eskdale to the Duddon valley. The south end is as bad as Hardknott.
Good riding.
