| Re: 883 Sportster fuel consumption
my old 1988 4 speed sporty would do 65 mpg no prob and that was two up and had been known to do 70 mpg on occasion. When ever i get a new bike i always brim it then run it out of fuel having taken a full container with me of course then i know how many miles i WONT have to walk. those warning lights can't be trusted.. bring back proper fuel taps me says

I got a 1999 883R, no idiot lights on mine, just a fuel tap that seems to be impossible to reach without actually stopping, but I get somewhere between 40 and 50 mpg, which I think isn't too bad, but then I have come from a 750cc Vfour honda, in good weather that thing only ever gave 35 mpg, but hell did it go. I always find that nice weather really messes with my MPG, ya can't beat the rain for making the fuel go further. LOL Cheers Mick ![]() ![]()

Well went on a run the other day then last night took it out for 25 mile jaunt to get it up to 100 miles on trip (no reserve light on either!). I did 101.4 miles and squeezed in 8 litres. That is 12.675 miles per litre or multiply it by 4.54 for gallons which is 57.54 mpg, which is more like it. In hindsight maybe I was doing a fair few short trips before which didn't help. Stew |
