wrynose/hardknott on sportster and sundowner seat

Since i got my sportster1200custom last month after along lay off from biking i have beeen all over the lake district and my confidence has come on leaps and bounds. I would be interested to know what people think about going over wrynose - i could imagine the uphill u bends are tricky - even more so on a bigger harley than mine. Is it sensible to try or would there llikely be a a nasty dropping of my pride and joy - any experiences to share ?

at the august punchbowl meet I met a chap fropm Barrow with an unwanted sundowner for his sportster ? have you still got it - I would be very interested - the pillow seat i ordered doesn't fit late model sportststers

tel no is 01539533928

happy riding

cheers
David

Re: wrynose/hardknott on sportster and sundowner seat

Well its do-able but be careful and pick your time to ride it, I led the missus over them this summer on her bike and as we got deeper into it I was thinking i may have dropped her in it here due to her inexperience, but I kept looking in my mirror and there she was right with me . But i did get a bit of a bollocking when we stopped for bit of view admiration . When I say pick your time, obviously weather's a consideration but also traffic at busy times, and watch out on the narrow bits for pricks in cars with sodding pushbikes hanging off the back of them, I had a bit of an episode with one of them .

I took a load of Belguims over Wrynose as well as everybodyelse who came on the rideout from the Lakes rally a couple of years ago Patrick chaiman of Freewheeling Kempen the Belguim club told me not to mention the ride over Wrynose as the Belguim lasses wouldn't go if they knew about the pass, when we got back the girls said it was the best rideout from a rally that theyv'e ever been on,just take your time and leave a good gap between you and any other cars/bikes in front of you

The Pillow seat you mention, may be the same as the one currently on my bike, but if it's not and is a bit more "cushioned" and wider than mine, I'd be interested in taking it off your hands for when I have the "Soft Bummed" one with me and it's possibly likely to fit mine as it's a 1993 Sportster. Maybe you could post a pic on here of it an I'd know if it's what I'm looking for.

I've lived a stones throw from these places all my life and yet never been there, hmmmm, maybe I should put that right sometime eh?

No probs over the passes really. Keep clear of Sundays when the swivel heads are about.Easier from the Langdales side but more of a challenge from Hardknott side. I took six Free Wheeling Kempen over 2 weeks ago and they managed it and they're not used to hills

thanks for the tips Hippy - looks lke I should find a quiet day and give it a go. maybe an idea for a rideout if there are others who might like the safety in numbers approach. Can u assist in putting me in touch with the chap from Barrow with an 07 sportie to see if he's still got the seat
