Re: Beware of police hardline approach

7:20 I went past, one of em must of gone off to Mcdonalds for more doughnuts.

Pity I didn't get it a day earlier as I was talking to them at Barton bike night, could have aired my views on what this has to do with road safety.

BTW the reason I was chatting to them was to see if its legal for tractors to hold traffic up for hours on end without pulling in and causing driver and rider frustration and apparanty it is perfectly legal, asked if there was any extra interest in checking tractors and trailers in light of the motorcyclist that was killed last year when a tractor turned right into a field without either wiring to the trailer lights or looking in his mirrors. The answer was a blunt NO.

Crazy county we live in

Re: Beware of police hardline approach

Hard luck, but I'm not surprised. Lincolnshire traffic plod are among the worst in the country.
I fell foul of them a few years ago with a 7"x5" plate - illegal but easily readable.

Now, don't get me wrong - I broke the law, I should take what's coming if I get caught, but the thing that really boiled my piss was the way they dealt with it.

The plod told me I'd just get a letter telling me the correct sizes etc. Quote - "that's all we're doing at the moment". A few weeks later I get one o' them "you don't have to turn up" type summonses, followed a few weeks later by a £110 fine. One hundred 'n' ten fraggin' quid!!! Seems the tosser had lied to me and then reported me - more fun than just issuing a 30 quid fixed penalty I guess.

Wankers, the lot of 'em.

Re: Beware of police hardline approach

How many people were aware of the following, I certainly wasn't! So don't get too Gobby with Mr Officer believing that your characters and spacing etc is correct unless it also has all of the following info!

The British Standard also requires that a number plate must be marked with the following information: - The British Standard Number (currently BS AU 145d) The name, trade mark, or other means of identification of the manufacturer or component supplier. (The company who actually make the number plate.) The name and postcode of the supplying outlet. (The 'supplying outlet' is taken to mean a company whose business consists wholly or partly of selling number plates.) A non-reflective border and the Euro-symbol with the national identification letters are optional additions. There shall be no other markings or material contained on the number plate.

Re: Beware of police hardline approach

Hmm, the other link seems to have stopped working, so here's another that does.

Legal number plates - DVLA rules for display of registration numbers - The Plate Market
