Benefits of membership.

I’ve been contemplating paying up for membership to the H.D.R.C.G.B. for some time now,. I’ve got a fair rapport with many members here (on the support site) and have met a good few of them, & I’ve been to the odd event where the majority of the attendees were riders club members, and in general I quite like what I saw.

My question is.- Although I would gladly pay £30 P/A for a years membership- for this site alone.- It is in my understanding that it is “independent” of the club itself,- and is free for all, (bar the club business section). So considering I’d provably only do one or maybe two official events and maybe a couple of non-sanctioned satellite do’s is it really beneficial for me to pay membership?- bearing in mind I’d never wear any club regalia, provably wouldn’t use the tool hire (even though I can well understand the benefits of a tool bank). & isn’t most of what is in the club magazine readily available on this site,- only a few months earlier?

If someone could explain to me the full benefits that I would gain I’d be most grateful.

With Regards L.V.

Re: Benifits of membership.

I met up with some fellow members at a local meet. Although a good welcoming bunch I felt a bit awkward as I was not a club member and many did not use the forum.

I have now joined up. No benefit apart from the feeling of being a proper member rather than a guest.

These clubs don't run them self and have overheads. I just like to pay my way but that's more a character thing.

As for real gains apart from social I have seen none yet.

Hope this helps.

Re: Benifits of membership.

Without prejudice.

I have been a member of several clubs over the years and have also been chairman and now president of a local motor club. I have often hear members moaning about the way clubs are run, to which I always give the standard answer;

“Do not ask what the club can do for you; ask what you can do for the club.”

There are far too many individuals in this lovely country of ours that would rather sit in the background and moan about the committee or the lack of events to attend, be it this club or any other for that matter. Get off your arses and get involved, even if it is just suggesting a place to run out to a local hostelry, you’ll be surprised how many people are just sitting around waiting for someone to make a suggestion. If not keep your hard earned money and use it for fuel, clubs don’t need another non active member. While I am not a member of the committee, nor intend to be (work commitments) they are always the unsung heroes of any club and deserve free membership and a free bar tab at the national rally!

As for benefits, I have made a few cyber friends on the forum and have learnt a few tricks too. While I’m not bothered about “harleyquin” (although I have known guys join clubs, just for the magazines) I do find the forum very useful, after all it is 2007 not 1987 and times, they are changing . Is that worth the membership fee? Ask me when it comes to renew in December, if I pay, then the answer is yes. If I don’t, then obviously not. One thing is for sure, it will be down to me, and not any failing of the club, or any club for that matter.

I’ll get of my soap box now, apologies to all, if I have upset you, but that’s life!!

I would never of guessed you were on a committee.
I've also been on committee's but thought it was a good idea not to see peoples issues as moaning,it gives the impression that once elected you pull the drawbridge up,a fatefull mistake sometimes.
Its also not a good idea to presume that people who "moan" have not in some way, a real and specific point to make and have not been "involved".

The club is, after all, the members....... or the moaners.

Think of it like a family. You can be a good neighbour but for a commitment of a paltry £30 you can be the real deal. Sounds like you are three parts of the way so stop faffin about and do it.
