Re: Greece 2010

Rikkis milage going the short way via France ,Switzerland, then the ferry from Italy over to Greece is about right at 1800 miles.

Not wanting to p*ss on the group bonfire here but I just dont see how you can do that in a realistic amount of time as a group of people.

Working from experience on the equation - the amount of time taken to get anywhere increases disproportionally with the number of people going

2 or 3 riders of (equal riding capability) could crack on and do 360 miles a day ........... for 5 days solid (not taking into account ferry times etc) .............. so 5 days there ......(if you dont want to turn it just into a slog to get somewhere, which having done that turns out to be crap :) ..... 4 days p*ssing it up ............. 5 days back ............... 14 days ............f*cked by the end of it but a cracking good laugh.

Add a few more riders into the mix ......... and allowing for different riding capabilities, drop in avaerage speed keeping everyone together, fuel and fag stops etc etc ......... reacon you'd be pushing it to do 250 miles a day .............. 7 days there .......... 4 days raly ......... 7 days back ............ 18 days off.

That's what I said, Mark - three weeks off work, in theory, cus of being knackered with all that riding and rallying.

Postie and I would love to go but will have to see how this year pans out and get my test and all the practising on a BIG bike out of the way too. Here's hoping .......

Daz that was my point was just pointing out in my cheery way that in order for it not to turn into a slog down to greece and back ............ a fair amount of time (which shouldnt be underestimated) would in reality be needed

Re: Greece 2010

Thanks Mark for the info, fair points but as Dave said it’s all about the adventure and ride. When we discussed this many moons ago it was mentioned that it will take at least 3 weeks to ride it so anyone thinking of going can arrange their leave from work etc that’s why we need to talk about it sooner than later. The rally is only a means to an end being all about the craic getting to and from there. Still if we get pushed or want to save tyres could always jump on one of these?
