walesby -summing up

well got back, safe and sound 2.30pm yesterday. despite the best efforts from the caterers to give me food poisoning, after "risking" a tepid bacon and sausage bap for saturdays breakfast

to arrive on friday, after nearly 200 miles and have no source of on- site edible food, got me off to a bad start, i admit.

I did not after putting tent up ,then want to get back on bike and drive off to search out some food, in the heavy rain

nice to have one of the club founders there and the message from fred warr, that was read out, i found especially moving. kev's master of ceremonies skills, made me laugh, felt like it was more like the "wheel tappers and shunters social club" at times.

overall i enjoyed meeting everyone, putting faces to web site names, enjoyed the bike show saturday afternoon, looking around the trade stalls, beer was typically very northern i.e.frothy which slowed down the effiency of the bar in particular on the friday night.(hate to admit it, nice pint mordueman, by the way )

the only criticism i do have of the organisers, was that they had built up the camp site facilities too much, that was the main part of the problem for me,because i found my expectations were not met.

to have no paper hand towels, or even hot air blowers in the toilets ,especially when you got a shower every time you turned on the taps in the sinks, was a pain.

i was presuming like the dart, for such a big site, there would be an onsite cafe/ restaurant , next time i won't presume.

i know , how much work must have gone into the whole event by the commitee and all the helpers ,they had worked their socks off.
at the end of the day,you can only take the word of caterers on spec. of what they can provide,so no blame on the organisers, there what so ever!

nice to get over 50+ of our region up there,a big thanks from me to mad mary/carols catering for topping me up with food on saturday.

highlight of the whole weekend was the sight of di, on the 125 cc arriving with postie, after the 8 HOUR RIDE UP!!!IF they did an endurance award, surely di, or perhaps postie deserve it!!-lol

also really enjoyed both the naesby field and coasters hostility tents, well done to both of them.

the fact , that i had had enough and came home a day early than planned, summed it up for me.

yes, i expect that i will be berated from the staunch defenders of the club, however, i was loyal to the club, did my bit went and supported the 60th rally, as did the 1000+ others.

admittedly after the long, for me journey, the old leg and knee was playing up, so was i suffering from grumpy old man syndrome.............perhaps

nice to hear what other people from our region thought?

still can't work out whether it was just me, hence this post?

Re: walesby -summing up

I know it’s very easy to be critical Andy but I do agree with a lot of your comments and no doubt it will kick off in the members bit at some point? Even so a lot of hard work went into the event so fair play. I’m really glad the club had a successful turnout and hopefully archived what they set out to do. As for the region, I agree an excellent turnout! I also think a mention about the trophies that were hand made by Cobra John for best engineering and best in show which were IMO works of art. nice one and congrats to the winners!

Surprise highlight for me was the arrival of Postie and Di on the Saturday after riding over 200 miles at 40mph on her little 125 Yeng tong and without using motorways! So well done Di and happy anniversary!

Another was the Chummily Warner cheese and wine party supplied by Al Fayed Rikki which was a god send and very enjoyable, so thanks mate.
Also noted after leaving the camp site on Sunday I found a McDonald’s 2 miles from the site, so I pigged out on Big Macs and Fries.
Kin heaven after that vendor shit we had to put up with!

Can't disagree with any of your points Andy. The food was lousy, but the caterers had references and are used to catering much larger events. We won't make that mistake twice.

I was surprised too at the lack of paper towels, but it was one off those things we just didn't think to check. We checked the showers, which were plentiful - and hot, we checked the toilets, which were clean and kept spotless the whole rally.

Very Fair comments Andy, when we arrived Saturday due to work stuff we were warned off the food everyone was saying do not eat anything from the food vans.
"What" we thought, everyone was saying after bad food friday they are still serving saturday personally if it was my responability they should have been booted, at the present time there must be lots of good caterers available even at very short notice.
If it was not so far away was half tempted to run back home and return with grills and a fridge box full with bacon and burgers oh and not forgeting
big mac jj & mac mac the 12 hells kitchen posse.

Apologies for the dispense of the beer, but the Walesby bar staff had left the beer out in the sun for a couple of days and had triggered secondary fermentation. I was under the impression that the beer would be in a cellar, no wonder it was frothing up, it was a bloody miracle the beer tasted as good as it did.

Glad you liked the beer Andy, Northern beer should have a small tight head to drink the beer through, not frothy as it was at the national. Well done to you all for getting through it so quick and I am glad you enjoyed it

yes the food was lousy but if they were used to catering for larger crowds how come they ran out of bacon by 11 am Saturday morning?
