Re: Ultima shovel engine

So this means S&S have competition?

Their Evo style big blocks had a good name among dealers and customers posting on the internet, at least.

Wonder if S&S will sue them for breach of design copyright LOL

Re: Ultima shovel engine

They certainly do. Personally I prefer S&S.

On balance S&S have the better perceived quality but a lot of it will come down to price difference.

Re: Ultima shovel engine

Looks bloody nice, if it runs as well as their evo style and is sold as reasonably the S&S market will start to be effected.

a bit of healthy competition is no bad thing.

Wonder how much it costs? cannot seem to find prices on the site

Re: Ultima shovel engine

Now i can't talk from expierence[ive never rode an SAS shovel] and can someone please correct me if i'am wrong but i'am i right in thinking the very first Evo engine had a shovel crankshaft ie heavy flywheels but the later Evos had lighter cranks hence the Evo is seen as a revier engine than a shovel and the SAS shovels use the lighter crankshaft, what i want to know is does this ultima engine feel like a real shovel, as a few people i know dont like the sas shovel engine conpaired to the original shovel.
Be nice if its a lot cheaper than the sas engine

Re: Ultima shovel engine

The engine uses heavy flywheels.

Re: Ultima shovel engine

They are an evo bottom end .. bascially they took their 96 evo and put a shovel top end on it. Adjustable pushrods.. with hydraulic lifters.. still old shovel style cam.. they aren't sure if it has roller rockers or not on it. Oil pump is the high volume evo pump.
The heads are an std copy exactly..hemi chamber.. with Mahle pistons.
9.5 compression.. comes with the standard 5500rpm ulitma ignition. (This info comes directly from my midwest salesperson). They have had the engines on the road for a year for testing before releasing.

This is plagiarised from another site but to my mind looks pretty good

Re: Ultima shovel engine

This time last year I spent ages agonising over which engine to fit. Life can be a bitch at times! I went with S&S, simply because the UK-based back-up seems to be more substantial than for any other US brand of engine. Also, if you choose one of their ignition systems, you get a 2 or 3 year warranty.
