| Newbie from Leeds for a Street Bob ?
Gonna get back into biking again, but don't want to become one of those 40+ born again bikers who ends up in a smoking heap !! Was thinking about a 1200 sportster, but really like the look of the new Street Bob. Anybody got one and if so , would I be better off with something lighter to start with ? cheers |

I started out on a V-Rod at 63 and with no experience. My sense is very strongly that you should go for the bike you want, and not the one anyone else thinks you need. And I would apply this even more strongly, siince you have prior experience - doesn't really matter what kind of bike it weas on. As far as the bob is concerned, I have heard nothing but good about it.;) Whoops! Sorry; I forgot to welcome you to the forum. When you get your bike, join the club - you'll be glad you did. take both of them for a test ride and see which one you prefer to ride. Then do the deal and ride with a smile on your face. enjoy and keep us informed.

Streetbobs are a good and cheap way of getting a big twin, not too easy to get hold of though, sporties are great fun, the weight thing doesnt really come into it imo because they are all heavy. but as has been said before. try em both see which suits you best. both great bikes, sportie has more heritage, streetbob may have gearbox probs from what ive heard. either way both are great fun, I had 5 sporties over the years, and now have a softail, would like a sportie as well as they are fun fun fun, but cant afford both. hi, i just got rid of my sporty for a softail. i was looking for a streetbob but i didnt want to wait 4 months! there are one or two in the dealers, oxford HD and birmingham HD have one each i know, but probably not for long. i love my little sporty but it just wasnt powerful enough for me, and wasnt really suited for long distances or pillion use. i didnt have a prob with the size and i am a big bloke, but i did have a custom with forwards. it was great fun in the twisties and could keep up with other bikes but was let down by the lack of grunt to overtake without a long runup, just the way i ride! you can do a lot with a sporty and be very happy with one, but if you really want a big twin, you will find yourself part exing thesporty at some point. try a few bikes out, see which suits you most, and make sure you do the dealer, cause they will try to do you! dan |

HiYa Mozzie Welcome to the club website. The Yorkie section (west bit) meet at the The Hunters on the Pool In Wharfedale to Harrogate road on the 1st Tuesday every month. You've missed June but hope to meet you in July. Where abouts are you? I'm north of Leeds. Get whatever bike feels good to yourself and fits your pocket Just remember, we only do this living thing once............ so enjoy it, but don't cut it short (Hyabusa 'll do that )

I agree with the suggestion that you should go for the bike that you REALLY want and not just settle for something you think you should. If you want a 883 or sportster then go for it, but, if you have a true inkling for something bigger then don't compromise. If you do you'll be forever disatisfied. Me I had a 20 year gap from biking before I went for my first (and so far only Harley) a softail. I just took it easy, treated it with the respect it deserved and so far after a coupla years no problems. So if you know what you really want, go for it.
