Hi, Just done my CBT..next my test, then

I can join the ranks...at 42 I guess i meet with what some say to be in the "mid lifer" bracket of the born again biker bragade ! Had bikes in my youth but never passed my test. Fancy a soft tail, maybe a Fat boy or Heritage in April not sure which, they are similar, Id appreciate your recomendations.

Anyhoo I Thought I'd say hello to yawl.

Re: Hi, Just done my CBT..next my test, then

Good luck with your test Mick - can't offer any advice on which bike to get, I've got an Electra Glide, a bit like an estate bike! Had it since July, bought on a whim, one or two probelms to sort out, but I LIKE IT.

I rode bikes before this 32 years ago, so 42 is OK to get started again, pretty good really, maybe I should have got a bike when I was 42 (rather than 52). Usual story, probably same as yourself - wife, family, mortgage, etc. so no time/money.

Everybody will have their favourite bike - so unbiased advice is unlikely, but that's not a bad thing. My Glide is a lovely old lump, but I can see why they're not everybody's favourite. My advice (if I have any) is don't buy the first bike you see (don't ask me how I know!!!), look around and make sure your are completely happy with your intended putchase.

All the best

Hi - welcome to the madhouse.

If you are doing the 125 test get a Sportie and have it restricted. If doing Direct Access - a nice Street Bobber or Dyna

Re: Hi, Just done my CBT..next my test, then

Ta for the advise, My local dealer is "Just Harleys", I intend to start kicking tyres from Feb onwards, as you say its not someting to rush into. My wife knows that something is brewing purchase wise, cos the magazines which tend to appear prior to the event are starting to "lie around the house". This of course needs to be done in order to make sure that that crucial investment is perfect, and more importantly it sets expectations with the FD before the event.

The research should be enjoyable also.... cant wait to get back in the saddle, even enjoyed the CBT training on the 125!!!
Forgot how fellow bikers nod at you when your pootling around, which made be think about the renound comradary that Harley riders have.

So looking forward to getting the ride....

Mick

Good luck on the strategic magazine placement.
My first Harley came from Just Harleys (old shop).
Get out and try as many as you can, when you can. Then go back and try them again, the right bike will be with you for years and will feel like 'your' bike.

Keep with it Mick, you will NOT be disappointed when you get there.
You'll be riding down some road and the thought will come into your head.....
'Kin ell, I'm riding a Harley-Davidson..AND ITS MINE'. You'll have that same intense feeling every time you put a leg over it and fire it up..its magic stuff.
You will get there if you want it bad enough.;)
