Re: Ride Out This Coming Sunday

thanks to Davey and Chris for being good sports. ahem

the traditional four-speed Curse Of The Throw Out Bearing struck after about 70 miles

a £1 roller bearing disintegrates inside the tranny sidecover and you can't ride because you can't get any clutch

After checking the throwout by sight and seeing both washers intact and the circlip intact I was sure it was cable slip on the foot clutch and I spent TWO &$£&%" hours adjusting, swapping cables, snapping one rocker clutch attachment bolt and getting a pillion off Davey (ta!) home for the other one......nothing worked because the clutch would not disengage.

As the tow truck arrived i was wondering if the key had gone on the hub. But nah, i finally got into the garage today and the crushed remnants of the tinny POS roller bearing were on the bottom of the tranny.. It had just worn out after 4yrs and dropped off the pushrod from between the washers. A classic 1975-1985 fault.

Had a spare one, the Heavy Duty version, at home. and have now ordered one more for the jacket pocket.

Now there's just a severe oil leak on the rear rocker box to fix......

And a big THANKS to Eddie for two new drilled bolts damn quick...
